The Old Man's Ride '66 C10 Shortbed Stepside
Just wanted to post a few pix of the project I'm working on in SoCal. It's originally a TX truck which belonged to my father. As I recall, he was the 2nd owner and was pretty reluctant to have it shipped out West. It's taken a while to get her started...but the process is moving along fairly well.

Re: The Old Man's Ride '66 C10 Shortbed Stepside
Hey thanks everyone for the replies of encouragement. Plans for the truck are currently to keep it simple. I may lower it a few inches but other than paint, interior and newly rebuilt 350/350 combo; not much in the way of custom. I'll have more pix coming as I progress. Looking forward to sharing, as well as seeing some of the other builds and trucks in general. I love this site almost as much as I love my '66!!

Very cool Doobiebro...I have some pix of the original truck before I started tearing it apart. Just need to get my pc up so I can retrieve them but hope to be posting more soon. Believe me ~ I know about waiting for a project to start. I waited about 8 yrs myself. Good Luck!

Re: The Old Man's Ride '66 C10 Shortbed Stepside
A couple more pix. Had some severe rust going on in the cab (go figure) and had to have a patch welded in. The other shot is of the bed getting prepped...this is the second bed on this truck. The first one fell victim to a wreck while it was parked right out in front of my dad's house.

Re: The Old Man's Ride '66 C10 Shortbed Stepside
Just a bit more progress on the paint for the 'Ol Girl. Still trying to find some older pix on my other pc but here are some recent ones...
I'm no mechanic and I have to get my carb and transmission linkage pieced back together. Anyone have any foolproof steps or pix on how to do this? I could hire a mechanic again but I'd like to save a few bucks doing it myself. Thx!! |

Thanks McMurphy, I keep an eye on your build as well...looking nice as well! The black and red you see are the primer/base coats. The idea is to have this baby shining in a gloss black and torch red interior. My cell phone camera is at the ready...stay tuned!

Re: The Old Man's Ride '66 C10 Shortbed Stepside
We put on some paint and clear coated the heck outta her! Got the new window seals/rubber put in and she looks great. Well, at least to me she does..lol.
I kept the original back window but the rest are new and a buddy of mine reworked the window cranks...man they work nice! Like a brand new truck, without the power windows of course. I'll get more pix in later but wanted to share what I had. I need a mechanic in the San Diego area now...mine flaked and left me to have the transmission linkage and fuel setup needing to be installed. Anyone have any good step by step instructions or pix for me to go by?? Thx! |

Re: The Old Man's Ride '66 C10 Shortbed Stepside
Well, life kinda took over and again, put my project on hold...but in March I was finally able to get her started once again. She is currently at Moonshine Metal Shaping in El Cajon, CA and in the final stages of completion.
Went with a 4" front and 4.5" rear drop (no bags...yet!) Also went with 18x8 Boss 338's all around. What a pain getting those fronts to fit. Disc brakes all around. A/C from Vintage Air, et, etc... Just a few pics of where we are now. |

Got the ol girl into Old Iron Exhaust here in El Cajon, CA this week. Taylor hooked it up with a great Magnaflow 2.25" exhaust. Can't wait to fire her up!!

Finally got her on the road. A few bugs to workout but it sure does feel good being behind the wheel again. Haven't driven her since 2001!!
Have all the bedwood ready to install as well. Keep ya posted. |
