trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
I want to run a big 33" tire the toyo MT and probably 10" wheels to really give the 33x12.50's a beefy look. I have decided to go with tuff country ez ride all spring lift but can't decide on their 3" or 4" kit.
what do you think looks the best with a beefy 33" tire? I don't plan to ever run 35's although I love the looks of them I don't want the big power loss and strain on my trans and stock 10 bolt rear. Not to mention the truck has 3.42 gears and I want to avoid regearing to regain the power loss..I figure it should handle 33's a lot easier. I don't want the 3" if it chances the 33's rubbing either but from what I read it provides enough clearance. Trying to decide what will look the bet more gap or less. I will be using the tuff country ez ride all spring lit. Any suggestions or things to think about? that will help me decide? here is a couple pics as it sits now in stock form with 32x11.50s part of me wants to stay as is but I really want to move up to the 33's and clear them with ease. Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
A square over 33's clears easily and looks best, to me, with a 2.5" or 3" lift. The driveshafts and brake-lines will be fine and you won't rub 33x12.50's on 15x10" wheels. If 35's might ever be an option, go for the 4" lift.

Go 4". You'll wish you went bigger after a month... Hell my truck could clear 42's, but I want more lift and bigger tires...

Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
Very similar thread here..
I'd say go with 4", thats what I've got & I love the stance...Heres a pic of my '87 K10 with 4" skyjacker lift kit, on 33" tires & 15x10 rims. It's got an auburn posi with 3.42s too, so we'll have nearly the exact same setup! However your truck is cleaan as hell man looks great! Good luck! |

If you're gonna go 3inch, why not just go 4

Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
Agreed, go 4. It's a sickness. If you went 3", a month later you would wish you went 4. 6 months from then, you would wish you went 6, so on and so forth. 4" is high enough but not radical. My next one will get the 4" and 35's treatment.

Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
all excellent advice, and it answered my question will 3" suspension lit clear 33's on 10" wheels so the main thing is what stance do I want. I personally am leaning towards 3" that truck above looks great with 4" and 33's but it looks to have a lot of fender gap and I don't ever plan to run 35's Im just not gonna get into building the truck to handle that large of tire bc in stock form there just not engineered to handle 35's I think I'll be ok with 33's for what off road I will ever do.
leaning towards 3" at this time still not sure! bc the stance changes so much from 3 to 4. hard decision. |

Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
I have a 4 inch lift and I think it is a little too high. I have a hard time getting things out of the toolbox and heavy objects onto the tailgate. I think it isn't worth the extra effort of making it higher.

Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
I have an '83 with a 4" lift and I love the stance and the clearance. I have 33"x12.5x15 on a 15x14 rims. I have yet to find a place I can't get to, the only think I would add is a step to make it a little easier to got into truck on a hill. |

Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
Might do 4 up front and 3 in the back. I just ordered a set of 0 rate add a leaves for my truck from ORD. I dont like the front being lower than the back. May as well go ahead and get the ORD steering box kit while your at it if your planning on bigger tires. at the minimum you'll want the bolt on style to save your frame if its not cracked yet. I have both.

Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
My 33/12.50s don't rub and I have no lift. I wouldn't go with a 4" lift with only 33s. They look a little small I think.

Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
I had a 4" with 33's and it made the tires look too small in my opinion, I'd go with the 3" but if the frotn looks low the 3 + 4 might be the way to go. In my opinion there's nothing worse than putting on bigger tires and having them look smaller.

Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
Go with a 4". If you didn't know the Toyo MT's are more wider, taller and heavier than other MT tires on the market. I know this from experience as Toyo MT's are what I currently running on my truck today.

Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
You must be on a 8" or smaller wheel? I was running 32x1150s bfg a/ts on a 10" wheel and they rubbed on stock suspension. Only off road but they would rub. I agree 33s look small on 4"s. But Im running 4"s with 35s and the front of the truckis lower than the rear witch I dont like.

Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
You'll need a steering arm with a 4" kit. I had to lengthen my rear drive shaft. But you may not have to. Depends on if your current shaft has been cut to replace parts before. Yoke, slip joint etc..... The kit will come with brackets to lower the break lines but you may as well go with some longer stainless lines. You'll need to deal with the e-break cable too. I just drilled the rivets out and lowered the mounts with some spacers. Not sure about about the three inch kit bud id think all these things will have to be dealt with there too.

Re: trying to decide on either a 3" or 4" lift
I have had a ton of these trucks and IMO the cleanest setup is a 2.5" or 3" and 33s. Rides the best, drives the best and "if" you ever wanted to sell it as clean as the truck is your "buying market" is a lot larger without a big lifted truck.
