VA 72 Blazer (tetnus project)

Hey guys, new to the site, finally taking the time to add my project. Affectionatly called the "tetnus project". I think you can see why. I purchased this truck last year from a friend who didn't have time for it. This body style truck has always been my favorite. Truck was origianally from out west somewhere, but has been here in VA for the past 10 years and it shows. The guys on this site have already provided a wealth of information. I'll post more progress soon. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks



Passenger side is in process of getting new wheel arch, wheel tub. Rocker panel and box gone on this side as well. Lower fender patch repaired. Still need inner/outer door skin. Another mirror hole repaired.




Drivers side, I have already done the front fender lower patch, inner and outer bottom door skins. Wheel arch over the rear wheel. Fixed a hole where the mirror was.



Radiator support is original just cleaned up and painted




Drivers side floor and rocker. Rocker box is gone.

Not planning on a show truck. But I do want it to look nice. I'm trying to go the extra mile now to prevent having to problems down the road. I want something that looks nice that I can drive. Especially in warm weather topless (the truck).

This is the part that I've been worried about. I've been looking at lks dcvn build which has been very helpful. My blazer is missing most of the stuff that is supposed to be there, so without pic's I'm guessing at where things go. I think I have a pretty good idea, but suggestions or similar pics are awesome.




I currently have the outer floor section, rocker box, rocker panel. Today spent most of the day taking inventory, or lack there of.





I think I can make this floor patch. Gonna give it a shot anyway. Got a 3 day break from the firehouse next week, hope to make some progress then.
If you see something in the pics that I need to consider, please feel free to let me know. I'm flying by the seat of my pants.

I am in the same boat as you are in having the rot in the pillars. VT has a good build thread Jaros44. Big J and some others. I have looked at theirs multiple times. I only get a few hours here and there to work and so I forget how it goes and have to look again. They all have pics you will figure out one thing from one thread and something else from another. Good Luck

Looks like the standard list of replacement parts to me:

Outer Floorpan
Kick Panel
Inner Rocker
Outer Rocker
Lower A pillar
Step up for B pillar at floor
Support for B pillar under floor
Outer B pillar
Torsion Boxes
Lower Rear Quarter Patch

I have done all this work - glad to hear that my build thread was helpful to you.

The other guys and I have done the work before and have seen how they go back together - ask questions, take pix of your progress and you can get this rig back together.

It isn't tough - just time consuming and (at times) frustrating. I didn't feel like paying somebody else to do work that I could learn how to do.

I will say that if you are going to do this rust repair on the body - replace the body mounts first so everything is legit in that department - yours appear to be a bit 'tired'. I replaced all of mine so they wouldn't be an issue down the road.
