Re: 60-66 Prices are getting out of control
there is to much disposable cash around and it is not in our hands. do you really need it and does it add value to your truck. either that or you just have to have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, and that is what the seller is banking on.

I think it's worth every penny of what he's asking........I like everything getting high on these trucks, just makes ours worth more.

Re: 60-66 Prices are getting out of control
I found one of the 5K sun tachs on craigslist using searchtempest, this allow you to search all of craigs list for a given item. I paid $85.00 for my tach and then send it off to Williamsons in Hot Springs, Arkansas they rebuilt it for $200.00 then put it in my 66 gmc.....it works like a champ.
so go here and look for a tach it will also pull up ebay but you can skip over that stuff. Kieth www.searchtempest.com |

I registered my '61 a couple weeks ago and the DMV bases the registration cost off the 'value' of the vehicle. The 'value' of my truck was the worst possible grade (no motor, not driveable, etc) and they 'valued' this heap at $4,000!! LOL today that little shorty is sitting pretty with a 350/350 combo that purs like a kitten... wonder what they think its worth now |

Re: 60-66 Prices are getting out of control
Did you take pictures with you? I transfered title on a parts truck and brought pics with me, no motor no trans and they valued it at 500.

Re: 60-66 Prices are getting out of control
Notice the last line of the add: sells worldwide. Ebay is catering to moving all of our clean american stuff overseas. With the value of the dollar being so out of balance here, people overseas are getting good deals. They are taking advantage of the exchange rate, and scoping everything up. Which will eventually make everything we have rare---then prices will really go up!

Re: 60-66 Prices are getting out of control
Just be patient, you'll find one for the right price. ebay is full of folks who are looking for THAT ONE SUCKER that's willing to pay the price they're asking. I look at ads like that and just laugh and move on. I especially like the ad where the guy is still trying to sell an NOS 64-66 truck accessory clock for $1150. Yep, it's still not sold.......
Kieth makes a good point. SearchTempest works awesome. One thing to remember about the tachs for our trucks: They were manufactured by Sun, so you don't have to get hung up on having to buy a "factory" one. When you pull the outer covers off of those aftermarket Sun tachs, they look a whole lot like the original factory units. The head units inside of those tachs are the first thing to go bad, but places like Williamsons or Tach Man can rebuild it with modern electronics, and you'll have a perfectly calibrated unit that will work great. P.T. Barnum was famous for saying, "There's a sucker born every minute", and there's a lot of ebay sellers who live by that motto.

Re: 60-66 Prices are getting out of control
region makes a huge difference too. a truck that sells for $500 on a farm in eastern washington may fetch $5000 on the Seattle side of the state.

Re: 60-66 Prices are getting out of control
$500 is just plain stupid. There are a lot of good deals on these tachs if you look around. I picked mine up on Craigslist for $20 bucks with the transmitter and in working order. I do agree parts for our trucks are getting more expensive all the time as more and more people are discovering just how cool they are, but there are still some good deals out there if you're patient.

Re: 60-66 Prices are getting out of control
That’s an interesting combination. It has the early pinch cup (with the clamp at the bottom), however it has the later face bezel with the zero adjuster on the front. These later heads with the adjuster screw usually came in the cup style with the retaining nuts on the back. I’m not sure if the bezel with the adjuster was every offered by GMC. I’ve only seen the smooth face (non-adjustable) version in factory literature.
IMHO the unit is listed for at least twice what it’s actually worth. The bezel chrome is no better than driver quality. Normally this style in this condition would sell for something less than $200 (unless two people want it bad enough). However if it was a 1962 409 model in original mint condition including the transmitter it could be worth well over $1,200-$1,500+. Correctness and condition make all the difference. |

Re: 60-66 Prices are getting out of control
It wont get any better until the aftermarket companies pay attention to the 60-66 needs like the 67-72 aftermarket has.

Re: 60-66 Prices are getting out of control
one of the reasons i have been drawn to these trucks is that you use to be able to buy them at a fair price.trucks in my area need lots of body work and people will want $3500-$5000 for a decent buildable running truck.trucks you use to buy for $500-$1500.prices on everything are getting out of control.man its crazy.

International Buyers Buyers will be sent an invoice within 24 hours with the shipping price of Auctions end I buy a bit from your side of the world for my truck, every seller be it ebay or an actual retailer sets a different type of shipping cost ie/ I bought some wheel cylinders they cost me $40 shipping to Oz another company quoted over $200 for shipping. With that tacho being $500 and not being told the shipping cost first you can imagine what he'd charge to ship it. I'd guess $200. I doubt at that price it will leave the USA. Any thing we order from overseas has to have the shipping cost factored in and you have to shop around to find the right mob to deal with, its a bummer we don't have many wrecking yards for these and other american vehicles to source parts from. Sorry for slipping away from topic. End of moan I feel better now. |
