Is the cut-off 1970 for doing this? What I want to do is. Swap the axle shafts from a 72 Coil sprung, 5 lug, rearend into a 1970 Leaf sprung, 6 lug, factory posi, rearend. Thoughts?

You should be good asuming you have a 70 rear and it wasn't swapped out at some point in its life.
70 was the only year 6 lug rear that is the same width as the later 5 lug.
Don't forget to grab the drums from the donor truck too.

Thanks. This 6 lug is out of a 4x4. That shouldn't be a problem, right?

Hmmm, no idea.
I know the front track width on a 4X4 is wider...not sure bout the rear though.

Ya, I'm pretty sure that the leaf spring mounts are space the same width apart. Guess I'll just pull the axles out of the 70 and measure. Thanks again

Leroy,

You should not have trouble with the axle swap, but I was curious as to whether or not the 4x4 rear end is installed into your truck or not.

The spring perches are different between the 4x4 and the 2 wheel drive leaf spring trucks.

Don't forget to grab the drums from the donor truck too.
