What shades of paint for hubcap restore??

Decided to have my 15" 5 lug steelies blasted and powdercoated along with the dog dish caps. Everything will be p/c'd white, then I'm going to paint the gear/cog design, and the bow-tie back on.

Has anyone done it this way??

What sheen is the black on hubcap, is it gloss or semi, or satin?? (is there a difference b/t semi and satin?)

How about the shade of blue for the bowtie??

I'm thinking about just Rustoleum or Krylon....something like that. Would an automotive grade be better??

Appreciate your inputs and suggestions.

To me the bowtie looks ford engine blue, and cog design satin black.

Ford engine blue....wouldn't that be ironic!

I'll have to check that out though.

Mine went from this:

to this:

I had a local signpainter do it. I'm not sure about the black, but I just had him paint the bowtie the same shade of blue as the bowtie on the grill, or in my case, grill.

Wow! They sure look nice. He did a good job! It seems from what I can tell from most pics, that the black is a satin or semi. Definitely not flat or glossy. And matching the bowtie from the grill or the horn cap is what I think I'll have to do as well. Thanks for posting Sicklajoie!

Thanks for that thread Mel! Most blacks look satin to me in there.

Funny thing is, that a lot of that thread is exactly what happened w/ my truck. Meaning, I got it about 1982, and it had the yellow bowties on the caps, but it's a 1972 C-10. For YEARS I never knew that was not right. I'm not super picky about that kind of stuff, but if I'm going to resore them...might as well make'm right! Thanks again!

Well I'll be danged, webfoot! If you look at crewcabs thread, that is exactly what he used for his bowtie.

Re: What shades of paint for hubcap restore??

About the only other question I had that hasn't been commented on is painting a powdercoat...any problems w/ paint sticking to a p/c'd surface?? The shop doing the pc says I should just use some fine sand paper to scuff the surface of the gloss white pc where I will be painting......any comments??
