Tomorrow is the day

I have been looking/reading on here for a little while but recently joined in anticipation of finding and buying a Suburban. Tomorrow I take the trip to hopefully pick up my new 1971 3/4 4X4 Suburban. Pics to follow.

Welcome to the best place on the net to learn about, and to discuss with other fans of the Chevy Suburban!

I am a big fan of the K20 Suburbans, so I am looking forward to seeing pictures of your new burb.
Good luck in the pick up, and hope everything goes as planned for ya!

Re: Tomorrow is the day

Well....I made the 4 hr drive up to Oregon and then made the 4 hr drive home without the suburban. It needed more work and had more wrong with it than the owner let on. I knew it had rust in two places and that was all that was supposed to wrong with it. I asked if all electrical worked, if interior was ok, if it needed anything else. All electrical didn't work, dash knobs would all come off, drivers door window only went down 2in, no key for doors or rear door, and the list went on. To top it off...he knew for a week I was coming up...had appliances in the rear of suburban from his remodel and asked if I would take to dump for him. I'm still looking and will find one.

Re: Tomorrow is the day

Thats funny that he had no keys for the doors or rear door. My ignition key operates all of them.

Maybe they were replaced at some point.

Sorry the trip was for nothing. You'll find it! In fact, I always see some good ones out there on the west coast.

Re: Tomorrow is the day

Too bad, man! Keep lookin, they are out there. I live in the midwest and couldnt be too picky regarding rust, its an epidemic here. Given your locale, I'd say waiting for the right rust free baby is a good call, and shouldnt be too tough to find. Hope you find her sooner rather than later!

Re: Tomorrow is the day

Man...sorry to hear about the run-around you got. The furthest I drove for a vehicle that wasn't as described was 45 minutes. I did waste about 4 hrs one time in WV looking at a "custom" frame that was junk but that was back in the good old days when I drove an all expenses paid company vehicle and I was salary (before anyone asks...it was on my free time after my daily appts were completed... and I was allowed to drive the vehicle wherever I wanted/how much I wanted )

Re: Tomorrow is the day

So after my ordeal to Oregon to buy a suburban as posted before, I found and bought one 10 min from my house from the owner of a local hot rod shop. Selling to fund another project. Its a 71 GMC 3/4t 4X4. It has been upgraded to D60 and 14 bolt rear. It's a efi 454 w/t400. Up graded to hydroboost disc/drum. Stock gauges replaced w/ Stewart Warner in stock dash. Two spots of rust that are going to be replaced by the shop I bought it from. Unknown 6" lift, buckets front, stock second seat. Nice and clean wiring of the efi sysyem and install of ecm. The original carpet has been pulled to check for rust so one less thing for me to do before putting in new interior. The only bad thing is the motor was acting weird so they pulled it and it had a spun bearing. At least the motor is already out, I just have to put a new motor in but now i get to pick my motor and have a warranty. Best part (at least to me).....$1500
I tried to post pics but can't figure how to resize pics.

Re: Tomorrow is the day

Holy cow!! $1500 bones for all of that is not a deal, that is a STEAL!! Wow!!

The easisest way to post pics is to go to photobucket.com and upload the pics there (they automatically re-size when loading), then click on the lowest link in the dropdown menu and paste it into a post here. I have done it both ways and photobucket is much quicker and easier in my opinion.

Cool Re: Tomorrow is the day

Nice score, especially the price, man mine is coming on Wednesday and I am paying about $18,000 for it, ouch. At least it isn't cash as the 79 Bronco I built was traded for the Trans Am which only cost me about $10,000 but lots of labour on the Bronco. Can;t wait of it. Also want to see your progress because those Sub's are rocking cool.
