I traded an F150 for a 1972 GMC custom 1500, 84,xxx miles, 250 inline six, 4 speed, no ps/pb. I've alway liked this body style of truck but the long bed step side is a bit odd looking. I got this truck because the only rust to be found was in the driver side rocker and I figured it would be a good hotrod project. As I was cleaning the truck out I found the original protecto plate and sales paper work in a folder under the seat

. Should I go ahead and build it how I want or restore it original and keep a well preserved piece of history?

Sounds like it is pretty complete and it might be a shame to break it up, they are only original once. There are lots of trucks out there that are already missing stuff that are great for building a hot rod. You could clean it up and sell it to fund finding a hot rod truck. On the other hand it's yours and the price was right. It's a tough call. We would love to see some pics!!!

Wouldn't take muc h to make it real slick, one rocker, a coat of paint and some new wood in the bed. I'll try to post some pics.

Tried to post pics directly from my computer but was unsuccessful. Is there a better way to post them? Maybe through photobucket?

I would build it the way you want, you are the one enjoying it. Shouldn't be hard to find a LWB for sale for a reasonable price. I agree, the long steppers look odd.

As for posting pics, I just save them on my desktop. Then, in the box below the reply you are posting is a box that says manage attachments. Click on that, select desktop, and then select your picture. Simple enough generally.

Build it how you want. Your the one who drives it. As far as preserving a piece of history, cool but usually not worth the effort. The fact of the matter is, these are just trucks to most people. It's not a high dollar muscle car. Do whatever is gonna put the biggest smile on your face

Thanks guys. I always liked the old copo cars, thought about building it some what like they were. Just a bare bones, no frills muscle truck. Guess it already has part of what i need! no ps/pb, a radio delete panel, and a third pedal!

If someone had a good regular bed I might be interested in trading? The bed has a small dent in the passeger side fender, and the wood is rotted out.
