Does anyone know if the index project was ever completed? The manual is a pain.

The only thing I can tell you is that it's broken down (so to speak) by years, and you have to be diligent to see where the changes are. I put Scotch brand tabs on the pages I wanted to find more easily.

But, it seems that the changes per year model are what made it into the book.

I bought mine off of e-bay and often wondered if I just got something that was thrown together randomly instead of a real manual. It doesn't even have page numbers. I also put sticky tabs and labeled the pages I wanted to be able to find. It sure would be nice to have something that was indexed with page numbers.

In my Project thead, I gave my opinion regarding the so-called assembly manual. There seems to be no alternative to this heavily edited tome.

I don't think GM actually had a manual, but the pages of this book are copies of the sheets used on the line to instruct the assembly folks when something new came out, or a change occurred during the model run. After all, how many times do you think a line person would be allowed to hold up production to read how something was supposed to be attached or where it was to be located?

So, someone had access to those pages and copied them to create the manual. I think we're supposed to jump for joy to think we have something that shows us how things are supposed to be assembled. Some of this stuff is just guy stuff and others of us need to have the questions answered before we screw up. But, if you can take it apart, you should be able to put it back together.

Yeah, I took it apart and I still have questions.....
