C-30 Dually trucks
I'm getting a GMC dually tonight and right now it has a steel flat bed on it! Does anyone know of any other available options out there? I'm thinking of getting a 67-72 fleetside bed and trying to mold 73-87 dually flares into the bed. Does anybuddy here have experience with that sort of thing? If they do any help would be appreciated. I saw a truck on E-bay that was a dually awhile back and it looked like this is what he did but when I e-mailed him he never E-mailed me back. I am correct thinking they never truely made dually fleetside beds for these trucks?

No, but I've wondered how a late-model dually bed would look on one of our trucks. Some of our board members have use late model step-beds with nice results.

The lines will not match the lines on the cab. But the dually flairs are molded seperately so I can't think of anything keeping me from welding them on and using filler material to keep everything looking like it was made that way!

If it's a factory 1 ton its either 133 or 157 wheel base. If it's a 133, you'll need a longhorn bed or find 6 inches off a donor somewhere. If it's a 157 inch it's gonna be a S-T-R-E-T-C-H.

Maybe you could get some 67-72 stepside fenders and weld them on..dunno if they'd fit though. If its the lwb, you could always put toolboxes or whatnot in between the cab and bed...might look tacky, but oh well.

USBodySource (I think that's the right name), makes both a fiberglass bed with dually fenders (67-72 stepside fenders) molded in, and fiberglass versions of the 67-72 stepside fenders that can be molded on to the fleetside bed to make a dually bed.
If I ever get to finish my Longhord 4x4 build up, I'm going to take the parts (dually parts) off my junky 81 crew cab dually, and find an old cab and chassis 70-72 (preferably a 157") and stretch it a little (maybe) and make a 70-72 crew cab dually. |

I think this is the best looking conversion I have seen.
It looks liek the fenders off of the 88 to 98 daulie, but with the body lines touched up and the fender opening round instead of squared. |

I think that the last two pictures, the red truck and the blue truck, are the best looking. I have never really liked the new style bed because of the fender wells not being the correct shape and those just seem to have the right dimensions everywhere. But then again, if everything looked like mine, it would be a sad, sad world.

For my own personall gratification and to not still another thread I have a relevant question: Didn't the dually come in different rear widths i.e. a narrow dually and then the familiar cab and chassis? I ask this because I've seen two 69-72 tow trucks in my area and they do not look wide at all, the rear tires(dually) do not stick out past the cab.

Can you get a pic ot the narrow daulies? This don't sound right, and kinda defeats 1/2 the purpose.
One reason is for added pay load. The second is for more stability. |

It looks like the majority of these custom trucks have either went longhorn or streched the cab to make the difference up! Since mine is a 158 wheel base I'm looking into two options.
1. Find a doner Long wheel base fleetside frame and bed 2. Find a second cab and and fleetside bed and start stretching Since my cutting and welding skills are not on par with a professional I think I'll drive my dually with flat bed as is as a parts getter while I do up my 1/2 ton. Then I will see where my skills are and what my extra parts supply looks like! Unless I have any awsome welders out there willing to tackle the likes of a project like this! That red one looks great and I think in the end I will shoot for something like that!!! Thanks Any more info would be appreciated! |

Dually rear width's
A true dually truck(that came factory with a bed) has a wider rear-end than a cab and chassis truck. A true dually has a Dana 70 rear-end and the tires stick out past the cab. These rear-ends are dually specific and have longer studs for the two rear tires. A cab abd chassis truck has a narrower rear track width and the rear ends are Corporate 14 bolts. These trucks rear ends are also dually specific and are even narrower than just a regular truck rear end. I have seen some regular trucks with a cab and chassis rear end under them. They are dually's but they have to widen the wheel tubs on the inside of the bed for the extra tire. They look funny when done like that. I wish I had some pictures of the one I have seen around. I'll try and get a pic and stop and talk to the guy, I see the tow truck every now and then on my way home from work. I drive four miles to work and get to see about 8 67-72 trucks every day, but no one's awake at 4 am. Need to change my schedule.
