front brake rotor sourcing

does anybody know where I can get front brake rotors that dont have the outer bearing cups already pressed in? is there a way to get these out?

reason i ask is because i want quality timkin bearings and not the no name brand you get supplied from schucks(O'realys) or napaww auto parts

Re: front brake rotor sourcing

you just press the cups out with a press out or tap them out with a brass drift/punch. look at the backside of the installed bearing cups, there are notches in the cast iron giving you access to knock them out from the back. don't use steel drifts/punches on them or you may damage them. use brass if possible.

Re: front brake rotor sourcing

There isnt any access at all to the back of the cup? not even a thin ring around the edges? If theres no lip at all behind it, you'll need a "blind bearing puller"

Reason I say not to damage the bearing race is because if you damage that taking it out, you have likely damaged the rotor too.

Here's a link to the puller. you'll have to make sure the collets will fit your bearing cup though.

I usually try and punch them out through the front side. If you're replacing the races, then it wont matter if they get damaged.

If you're trying to remove the front bearing race, I have used a socket that has the same diameter to knock it out from the backside.

Re: front brake rotor sourcing

Just a thought, have you priced OEM GM or Delco rotors from the usual suspects?
www.oewarehouse.com
www.oehq.com
www.rockauto.com
www.gmpartsdirect.com

Or do a google search for the GM part number? I have found some good deals on the above or Amazon, OEM vendors found on google.

I dont care about what happens to the chinese bearings just would like a way to get them out. the only reson my friend didnt buy online is wee needed to get his truck running in a couple of days and price and time was an issue

just fugured if we can get that preinstalled crap out of the rotor we can put in timkins and breath easy over bumps and not wory for years
