I recently scored a 66 Chevy Suburban (my first one!)

(pics to follow when I get a decent day). It is really in decent shape from behind the front doors back. The back doors (barn doors) are awesome.
The front floorpan, rockers, and structural area on either end of the firewall are shot. I was wondering if everything was the same up here on the suburbans and pickup cabs.
I need to fix the rot, and would like to put a GMC dash in it. If it was so simple as cutting off a cab from the dash down, and splicing to the suburban body...?
Am I dreaming here? Does anyone have any experience with this?

From and including the doors forward..sheet metal is the same as pickups.

The pass. side rocker/floor pan is a bit different than the pickups because it includes a step area to get into the back seat. Other than that, I think they are identical.

Thanks, guys. I figure I could probably have done some measuring/looking and figured close, but I'd have to get it in the garage and in the air. A P.O. started the lowering process, so it's hard to get under right now. I didn't want to start planning based on a best guess.
I have a 64 GMC cab that was for my project truck, RUST FREE. A few months ago we had a tornado come through, and aside from damage to our house and trees, rolled my cab in the yard. I've been torn - find a donor cab for the top half and fix it so I can have my dream pickup, or cut it up so I can have my dream burb!
I'm so excited about getting it driveable. I'd love to take the time/money and do it all from the ground up, but I'm going to give in to the 'instant gratification' desire!
I've got to get the garage cleaned out, and then the burb will move in...

I have read that the front roof area of the Suburbans has a different crown than the pickups do. If you cut and weld in the A pillars, that should be fine.

Sorry it took so long; here are pics as promised! Some good and some bad. The front is not as bad as I remembered, and the back is a little worse than I remembered. All told, I'm very happy with its condition for a Missouri burb.

The roof has four spots like this where there used to be a roof rack. Wish they had sealed it before it ruined the headliner.
And, a little corner ding that ought to be fun.

My burb was in the same condition and as mentioned above, the only thing I found different was the pass. floor pan (though I didnt change the roof).

So, did you replace or patch? I'm starting to lean toward patching; the thought of a full replacement of the floor and firewall is somewhat overwhelming, especially since I have zero experience. I sure don't want to screw it up.

I got a bunch of patches from LMC, and it worked really well. The welding was pretty easy, just a million spot welds. All parts fit except that passenger side because of the step. The replacement patch isnt flat since it doesnt have that suburban step area but all you have to do is cut the patch a bit and work the pieces around to fit correctly. I'll take some pics tomorrow.
