66 SS396 Chevelle - True Eye Candy

I just thought I would treat you guys to a couple of pics of my father-in-law's
super clean 1966 SS. I wish I had some before pics - my father-in-law is a Millwright, so everything has to be near perfect. This is the 375hp version, Muncie trans. and posi rear end. Front tag reads "Glory Days", 1966 was the same year he returned to the world from Vietnam, a decorated Marine ready to resume living in the land of the big PX!

Re: 66 SS396 Chevelle - True Eye Candy

I had one that was that exact same color when I was in HS. I have never seen one with the color combos mine had though, black vinal top, but the interior was a little odd. The original door panels were two tone, black on the bottom, maroon up top, then for the crazy thing, the front seats were black, the rear was maroon. I miss that car! I had it torn apart when I left for bootcamp. Upon my return from San Diego, I found out that it was sold to a local tire shop by my "friend" who said he would let me store it on his property. The tire shop used it as a stock car in the Saturday night dirt track races. Man I was pissed! Well, at leaast they didnt get the 396/Muncie, or any of the interior parts....I sold those later.

BEE-OOT-IF-UL!

Fastest car I ever drove for most of my life was an SS396 4 speed a buddy of mine had in high school - I graduated in '72 so it wasn't very old.

Later my girlfriend had a '03 Mercedes SL55 with like 495 HP, which was likely faster but nowhere near as visceral as the Chevelle. Chevys rule and other cars just don't compare to me.

Sweet. i've got two 66 396 engines out in the milkhouse and one is destined for a 66 El Camino if I can ever come up with one. I've been chasing one for years and can't figure out what I need to show up in their front yard with for a trade.
