1971 Power Disc Brakes

A friend of mine is seriously looking at this truck and I'm confused about the brakes. A you can see it has the non-power brake master cylinder. I thought seeing the 71's and 72's come with discs I thought that they would be power as well. Could you get non power disc brakes in 1971? If anybody sees anything else that doesn't look right please point it out.

Re: 1971 Power Disc Brakes

Just pointing a couple things out, I'm not dissing the truck - but the valve covers are not original (but kind of cool) seat cover not original, I don't htink the tach is original - looks like a fairly solid truck though.

Thanks for pointing those things out but we had already spotted those things. Its just that i don't ever remember seeing disc brakes that weren't power.

Re: 1971 Power Disc Brakes

Greg, According to the GM hertiage center, power brakes were a option in 71. The option code is J70. All 71 C-10's had front disk brakes standard. 71 C-10's could have Power Brakes by ordering option J70. I noticed the SPID on the ebay truck does not have the J70 option, so all is well.

10-4, Thanks for the info. I think my friend is going to buy this truck but
(like everyone) wants i as cheap as possible. If he buys it he wants to drive it back from California ( 1800 miles ) and I will go with him and that will be fun.

It looks pretty good, but I don't see how anyone could ever buy an $8k vehicle without actually seeing it in person, and driving it.

He also has it on Craigslist where my friend first saw it and called the seller and the seller told him it was on Ebay too. So, you agree on a price on the phone and tell him you will send him a 500.00 non refundable deposit and ask the seller to remove the remove the Craiglist listing and cancel the Ebay auction. Then you book a flight and bring the rest of the cash with you. If everything checks out you pay him, get the title and Bill of Sale and away you go. or, you if have big you know whats, you send the seller the full amount and have it shipped!!!

I am still scratching my head. So... if you get there and don't like it, you're out $500 and a plane ticket? I hope it works out for your friend. Seems like the guy could "sell" his truck three or four times, and make $500 every time someone doesn't buy it?

What's the deal with the steering column?
No indicator.
Shifter arm out of a different truck?

Thank you for the sharp eyes and info. You are correct and looking at the Spid it doesn't show the truck has having an auto trans from the factory.
