Something amiss here ??

Indulge an old guy here. Look at the pic of the spid and is it just me or does it seem strange to any one that the last bunch of digits on the spid are very clear and ledgible and the rest of the spid is so faded. The serial number on the spid matches the metal door jamb plate.

Maybe they used a different typewriter/printer that used different ink that was of better quality?

They probably put a new printer ribbon in the printer in the middle of the print job.

Re: Something amiss here ??

It's pretty clear that the VIN wasn't printed with the rest of the SPID, since it is high and a little crooked, and not lined up with the wheelbase print line. It could be that the VIN number changed on this one due to issues on the line, and they used a stamp to put the correct VIN number on the SPID later. Different ink, different application method.

I don't thinks it's anything to worry about. I wouldn't think its some kind of scam.

Re: Something amiss here ??

I wouldnt worry about it. I picked up a 69 chevy truck and it is the same way on the SPID. The VIN is very pronounced and the rest of the digits are thinner and more faded.

Looks like a different font, too.

Re: Something amiss here ??

I would guess that they printed a batch of SPIDs,then typed in the last or all of the digits of the VIN.It might have varied from plant to plant also.

Re: Something amiss here ??

Seen a lot of this. Both examples are the St. Louis plant which I think did many things differently than the other plants on the SPID.

Re: Something amiss here ??

Thanks everyone for your input. This is a nice truck on Ebay and I might buy it and I wanted to be sure there was nothing kinky about it and now I'm sure.
