So where do i go from here.....
I am like a lot of other people. I can't just leave a good thing alone, im American, we build stronger faster, custom....
I have this '78 one ton 2wd. But what I under stand, there is not much you can do to the one tons as far as keeping it 2wd and lowering with any kit? Ive started contemplating making it 4wd and putting a Dana 60 under the front. Im just need help with that if that is the road i decide to take. But as far as keeping it 2wd, what can i do to it? It has the 14 bolt FF axle under the rear end, so keep that in mind as far as wheels, lowering and etc. I just need some help finding a good direction. |

Re: So where do i go from here.....
If you stay 2wd I would convert it to half ton. But if you look at my sig you will know my vote goes towards a conversion and a lift!

Re: So where do i go from here.....
Bell tech and western chassis both make spindles and springs, w.c. sells a flip for the rear too. 8 lug wheels are harder to find in a 2wd look but they are out there

Prerunner!
That thing would look bad-ass with a wheel/tire change, new mirrors, and a nice roll bar in the bed. Wouldn't take a lot of work since it already sits up pretty high and wouldn't be very expensive (unlike converting to 4WD). It would be different from most of what you see on here and would be very usable as a parts hauler and runabout. |

Re: So where do i go from here.....
I would get a dually rear axle, dually front hubs and slam it. Maybe air, maybe static suspension drop.
Something like these....

Re: So where do i go from here.....
if your gonna 4wd is possibly unless you can find a D60 cheap which isn't really possible just get a 10bolt if your not doing any off-roading there's no point put the money else where like towards a lift or the axle conversion or wheels and tires

Re: So where do i go from here.....
I think it's gorgeous the way it is!!!!!!! But, if you want to change it up a bit...1. Put a chrome bumper on the front. 2. Remove the side trim. 3. Put the smaller chrome mirrors on both doors. 4. Find some COOL 8 lug wheels YOU like and some bigger tires Don't drop it, you don't even have to 4X4 it. Just make sure it has a good Posi. Enjoy

Re: So where do i go from here.....
That truck is a beauty. If you are looking to go in a different direction, a good first step might be to trade for an truck that is well suited for whatever you have in mind. I suspect you would get some good offers. Might get a good portion of the work done without having to use Gojo.

Polished 8 lug slot mags and a mirror swap would look great on that truck.

Re: So where do i go from here.....
I think it would look awesome with some H2 wheels and a mild lift. Its too clean to 4-wheel so just find yourself a beat up 4x4 instead of spending the $$$ on this one. Or if you want a 2wd just find a cheap 1/2T and roll that.

Re: So where do i go from here.....
Should i just take the mirrors off and leave filler bolts in place and not have any mirrors, or should i have one some circle one on top of the door. Im asking because that was what i was thinking about today.

Re: So where do i go from here.....
Personally, I wouldn't want to drive one of these big trucks without mirrors. Backing up these wide loads is tough enough as it is. I've also heard from other guys that have the small round mirrors that they are worthless. Look cool, yes, but not so much with the functional.

Re: So where do i go from here.....
I'd leave it as is, personally. That's a total time machine. If you're set on changing it, I'd 4x4 it. The base models just beg to be jacked up.
