Hinge rebuilds?

I spotfaced and tapped the existing oil feature and added an angled zerk fitting for future lubrication.

coralhead. did you use a long bolt and nut instead of a hinge pin. if so what size bolt did you use. great idea on the zerk fitting

I used a 5/16-18 x 3" socket head cap screw. They are not threaded the full length thus allowing a smoth surface to ride on. I drilled out the rusted in pins on a mill and used the screw and loc-tite to hold the nut tight. On the hinges that had the hole wallered out too much I drilled the hinge oversize and used a thin wall bronze bushing to get back to 5/16"

From the location of the zerk it looks like you would have had to have drilled straight down through the curved part of the arm to get grease to the pin. That must have been fun. How many drill bits did that take, LOL?

I just lined up with the existing hole and opened it up to the pin and then tapped it. Used a 5/8" end mill to spot face down. One drill bit used, straight hole.

I didn't realize that AD hinges had that oil hole, was it standard on all AD's? My TF hinges don't have it.

Yes the hole was already there for a pointed type grease gun tip. Most of them probably only saw grease the day they left the plant. You have to use a 45 degree zerk so as to get the gun on there when installed in the door jab. GM should have followed through with the zerk if they went to the trouble of drilling for lubrication.
