Carrier Bearing & Mount

I need some help. I am working on a 1969 CST 396 127"WB. I am down to getting the driveshaft put in. The truck was bought without a motor and trans. I put a 350 in and a NP833 4 speed. I got a driveshaft from another truck. The problem is, the carrier bearing bracket I have on the truck is different than what I have seen before. (Pic below). I did a Google search and found a pic of what I think I need.(Pic below). Thanks to Royo!

Can anyone tell me what the carrier bearing (the one on the left in the pic) came out of. I need to find one. I hate to modify my current bracket that is on my truck.

Any suggestions?

I have a 68 big block truck and my truck came with the same carrier as the one one the left

If I remember right the carrier bearing on the left is the heavier duty of the two. My '72 3/4 ton had one as did my '67 3/4 ton, both had the 4 speed granny transmissions.

Which bracket are you actually trying to locate, the one for the bearing on the right or on the left?

Was your truck a big block originally? I have two 68 3/4 tons, one with the original sb 327 has the carrier bearing that is mounted up and down like the first picture on the right and my 68 bb 396 has the carrier bearing picture on the left mounted left to right with 4 bolts. I believe based on your pictures your truck has the bracket for the heavier duty carrier bearing. If you dont want to change the bracket on the truck frame then maybe you have to swap to the heavier duty drive shaft and carrier bearing. I think the driveshaft is a larger diameter for the heavy duty, I measured mine once and I think it is 2" for the small block and 2.5" for the big block....

This was originally a 396 BB truck. I have the driveshaft from a 1/2 ton. After alot of measuring and thought we have decided to drill 2 holes in line with the driveshaft and mount the bearing on the exhisting bracket. I was unable to locate the heavier driveshaft or the bearing. It is fairly limited in the Joplin Mo. area. I did find out that my driveshaft is too short. It will go to the driveshaft shop after the Christmas holiday to be lengthened and balanced. Probally 150.00 or so. Thanks for the help.

The small bearing on the right will get destroyed by the 396. The bigger on the left is original equipment for the trucks that didn't come with the smaller one. My 70 Longhorn had it and its just a 350/350, My 1/2 ton 67 GMC 327/400 has the same bearing. I couldn't find the bearing and rubber for the original peice and had to change it to a more modern horse shoe style bearing and made an adaptore plate for the new one. Hope this helps.

the one on the right is a weaker one.them came on the 1955--66 chevy trucks get the slip joint one and get the bracket to mount that heavier duty carrier bearing on there less problems

My 1970 GMC 1500 with 307/350 had the 4-bolt carrier. The mounting bracket broke at both spots where it's riveted to the frame. This was 20 years ago(pre-internet), and I could not find that bracket. I ended up switching to the 2-bolt style.
I have owned 4 Chevy C/10s and every one of those had the 2-bolt. I like to call it the hanging doughnut. All 5 pickups I ever owned were all 1/2 ton, fleetside 8 foot beds with small block V-8s. Three were TH350, and two were 3-speed MT. I gotta say the carrier bearing is the weak link in the drivetrain. But, I run big tires and have a heavy left foot!

My 69 6cyl 3 speed had the small unit now it runs a 350, M465 4 speed and the big unit, all bolted in like its factory. Except 350 sits in the 4x4 location. My buddys 72 has the small bearing also, my brother in laws 72 also had the small bearing. Not sure what constituted which truck got the small one or the big one.
