T Case
How would you determine if the T Case needs to be rebuilt? This is a Rockwell 221, and rebuilding looks pricey so I want to make an informed decision here.

Re: T Case
It didn't seem to be too bad (last time I drove it anyway). The only thing that I remember being an issue is that it would pop out of 2WD. My grandpa just had a bungy cord holding it in I'm not sure if that was just an adjustment item or an indication of an issue.

Re: T Case
I just upgraded my T221 to a NP205 and it wasnt that difficult. I rebuild the trans and the only hard part was getting the heavy trans and TC back in by myself. Very doable. You will need new drive shafts.

Re: T Case
the popping out of 2WD, would be a spring that is worn out. You are correct, rebuildling a 221 will get expensive. I liked mine much more than the NP205 I'm running now.
That being said, I had to fab a new cross member for the carrier bearing, and shorten the rear drive shaft, when I converted to the 205. IIRC, the front d/s will be OK.

Re: T Case
I have 2 221's. One that worked fine in my truck and a parts donor. If you can describe what you need I can pull it from one or the other. They are going to the scrape yard soon.

I'm not even sure what to look for to know what I would need.

Re: T Case
Okay, so I've torn it down just a bit. Can anyone tell me if you think this is worth rebuilding based upon what you see?

Re: T Case
Well, after looking at this a bit more it seems like the input shaft probably needs to be replaced. I'm not sure if I'm going to rebuild this case or try and find me a 205.
