Re: Sound Systems, Stereo`s
I'm running a CD head unit and 6 disc changer in the center console. I wish I had an ipod connection rather than the cd changer, but I bought it before I got an ipod.
Someone on here was making a box to mount a head unit in the glove box. If you get a head unit with a remote and and RF relay, you won't have to reach across and everything can be hidden.

Re: Sound Systems, Stereo`s
probly not what your looking for but i converted my dash to fit a double din stereo. i wired in a relay so you don't have to be in park do watch movies. but i have a cable that goes into the back of my headunit so you can control your ipod on the head unit or with the ipod itself and ran the cable from behind the dash and under the carpet to the center console. in my uncles jeep he has his head unit built into his center console. i thought it was a good idea, kept the dash clean and still has good sound.

Re: Sound Systems, Stereo`s
You can run an ipod without a head unit, but it would be compressed sound. Nothing horrible if you're just looking for a simple music set up. You'd need an amplifier to run the speakers and you'd hook that up as normal, but the remote wire would be wired to a keyed switch rather than the head unit. Then, you just need a wire that connects from the headphone jack on the ipod to the rca jacks on the amp's input. Put the amp under the driver seat and route the headphone jack wire to a clean spot and you're done!

Re: Sound Systems, Stereo`s
TubbedII is right, I have also seen people use things like this in conjunction with a small amp. It could be mounted below the dash or in a console etc to give you a little better sound quality (At least I've been told, but I'm not sure exactly why) and an easily adjustable volume knob as opposed to having to fumble with the ipod volume. The RCA outputs would go directly to you amp.

Re: Sound Systems, Stereo`s
Amazon.com: Belkin Audio Y Cable Splitter 1-Mini... idk if that would work or not, have that go to your amp. thats what we got for listening to the ipod on the shop stereo.

Re: Sound Systems, Stereo`s
Personally, I have used things like this to connect to an RCA input. It has the ability to power the ipod so that it stays charged. The only thing to be careful of is make sure you get the proper voltage for your ipod. Older Ipods take a straight 12V input, newer ones (from the last couple years or so) need a 5v input so the cable would have a built in resistor to accommodate.

I plugged my I pod into an equalizer the was connected to a sub amp, and a four chanel amp. The sound was as good as the components I used.

Re: Sound Systems, Stereo`s
I simply bought a modern CD head unit that has a USB port for the Ipod. I can plug it in and have 600+ songs and work it with a remote control. Easy and simple, and it sounds great to me.
If you want to get creative you can hide it all. I chose not to since it's a daily driver. I use the glove box and console to store too many things |

Re: Sound Systems, Stereo`s
the one on the right is complete
i lost the screw in fuse tip on the left one, going to hardwire it in they were $30.00 at first, the other day $12.00 Christmas special at Canadian Tire complete it plugs into the lighter, charges iphone/pod, plays the music or phone threw the radio, headphone plugs into unit there is an ajustable frequency on the top edge,to find a clear FM channel The tip twisted loose in the lighter plug, when turning the truck and i lost the spring/fuse/tip one day, bought a second one $19.00 .....lost a third one and now we have a fourth so i plan to hardwire the "broken" one in an AC dash hole sticking out where i can see/use it applying power to the loose "wires" it works as normal I found out you can use it hands free using the ipod power from the radio instead so power from say the lighter "power"to the transmitter is built in it,and now I don't need the black "extra" pod plug but the radio runs/shows the song list etc in the display, when using the ipod plug to it source change from iphone to radio to answer the phone, quick and ez lol trying to explain it seems to get more confusing but it works ...http://youtu.be/7lqXLgFScHw

Re: Sound Systems, Stereo`s
Yeah that's confusing
I just simply use a small device (about the size of a credit card and nearly as flat) that stores about 600 songs. It just plugs into the USB port to the right of the radio (you can see it in your picture). I use the radio remote control to flip around songs. Very easy to use and sounds great. When I want more songs I just bring that little device in the house (MP3 player) and plug it into the house computer and burn the songs in. It's like having a CD player without all the CD's. |

Re: Sound Systems, Stereo`s
I put my stereo under the seat along with a amp & 6" Bazooka tube. *I put (2) 3 1/2" in the factory dash location. *I put the antenna in the rear passenger pillar. *Put a mirror on the heater box and found the right position to work the remote. *Worked good till I sold that truck. *Probably do the same with the new truck.*

Re: Sound Systems, Stereo`s
That's creative for sure.
I'm more of the KISS principle I didn't grow up among the boom stereo stuff, that's past my time so it was never my thing. Couple speakers is all I need. As long as I can hear it I'm happy. |
