not a very good day working on the truck!
so i put a brand new water pump on my new 383 i get. and have to pop off the rear cover to compress the pump so the pulley lines up nice with the crank pulley. put the cover back on. now about 2 months later i get the truck running and the cover leaks. i think nothing of it and just get all new gaskets to redo this job and be over with it! that doesnt happen and i get it running after taking a long time and doing a nice job and it leaks again! even worse! i guess this is just a part of working on old stuff. its a blast to work on though.

Chances are you busted the shaft seal pressing on it and are going to need another new pump. When I did my friends 350 last month he put a fluid damper on it we had to make up a shim for the pulley on the water pump, to move it out .060 to get the pulleys to line up.

actually breaking that seal, wouldnt it come out the front side? mine comes out the backing plate there. i think im going to try one more time with all new gaskets and a lot of that rv stuff, and let it set up over night. if that doenst work then ill have to fork out some more $$$$ for a new pump. thanks guys
