brights???

so i put a new steering column in my truck a little over a year ago and i dont have any brights....i think they worked before that not really sure....i went to get it inspected about a month ago and the guy told me they didnt work i told him bull cr**...lol..i told him it never came with them that that was a different steering column....got tired of it failing lol....took me forever to find a place to inspect it with no cats haha....so what could be causing these brights not to work?

Re: brights???

A bad dimmer switch will do this to. Is your dimmer switch in the floor ?
If it is....pull the wire plugin off and jump the wires to see if they work
that way............Just a thought !!!!!!!!

Re: brights???

When you changed steering columns did you use the same year or different years ?
I had to replace a turn signal switch and the wires were different

Re: brights???

Can you feel the switch actuating even though it doesn't click? Maybe the rod that pushes the switch isn't in the right place any more. The high beam switch is on top of the column at the bottom. Lower the column by taking off the two nuts under the trim plate. Pull the level for the high beams and watch the switch. Let us know what you find...

Re: brights???

Mine fell apart when i was messing around changing ignition switches. There is a simple plunger-type push-button switch down there, that is activated via a metal rod, from the signal stalk. Caveman-era technology. I would think, from what I recall, that the switch itself could be removed and replaced without messing with the whole steering column.

I'd like to replace mine with a floor-mount like the old trucks had, in all honesty. After having one switch fail on me, and being stuck driving home one night with ONLY high-beams, I no longer even click over for high-beams these days. I know the chances of another failure are slim but still . . . .
