timing on 95 c1500

Hi i wanted to know if anyone knew had to set the timing on a 1995 gmc sierra 1500 with a 305 5.0L.

To set the timing you must unplug the set timing connector, which is a single Tan wire with a black stripe/tracer on it. On some years (I think 1987) the set timing wire is tan with a white stripe/tracer. Doing this will cause the check engine light to come on and will set a trouble code 42 in the computer. Clear the code after you are done checking or setting the timing.

In 1994 the set timing connector was moved to the interior side of the firewall inside the cab on the C/K trucks.

On your 1995 the timing connector is inside the cab on the passenger side in the area on the computer.

For the Small block TBI trucks, the timing specification is Zero degrees BTDC.

If you can’t find it you should remove the glove box.
