Rare 69 C-10?

Just curious if any members have came across many ex-Government C-10's? I actually own one. The Glovebox door has a metal plate on the outside. It is stamped "U.S. Property" on the bottom as well as all the serial numbers and such. The truck was sold to the public in 79' from what I hear from the previous owner. Not sure if it makes any difference in value, and really not that worried about it. Just wanted any history that anyone else may have...

Re: Rare 69 C-10?

I think my C20 was a forestry truck.
Highlander in dark green.
It has the number 3 glued to the glove compartment door, mountings on the cowl for spotlights, a hole in the roof where a light was mounted, and a siren.

They also removed the plastic grill and put in expanded metal.

This makes sense to me. I know that the Army liquidated a lot of their auto fleet in 1979. A base near here sold many. A few of my friends got unbelievable deals on Govt trucks and jeeps.

Mine was built in Baltimore. I am not sure where it was in service though....

Re: Rare 69 C-10?

My 69 C10 has the 4 holes in the glove door for a tag and some strange option codes but I don't know anything about it's past.

Was a drab olive green color w/green interior originally. ???

Re: Rare 69 C-10?

I know the Army did buy Stepsides for general utility use on bases. I don't think they had any unusual equipment, for the most part. But,there are gov't/military ordered trucks with some unique options not shown as available in any book.

Re: Rare 69 C-10?

I have a 67 that was a navy truck. It too was liquidated in 79. Must have been a budget thing. It has the glovebox plate as well as its own dog tag key chain with it's info on it. These pop up pretty frequently on here, so i dont think they are very rare. The majority seem to be stepsides too.

I have heard that too from another source. I just have only seen a couple in my life around in years past, and the other source had yet to show me evidence of any just word of mouth. He said they were sooo common.Turned out that he had just wanted the truck...lol!

I have been told by a few other people say that thier friends had one, only to find that none of them were either. I was just wondering if any members really had any?

Thanks for all the input guys.....

if it's not rare, at least you can probably bet it's been over a hundred miles an hour with a lance colonel behind the wheel... Adds "character," I'd say it's a keeper!

Re: Rare 69 C-10?

The '67 C10 stepside small window I had was a prior Forest Service truck. It was painted in the weird Forest Service Green and had remnants of the old signage on the doors. I owned the truck when I was young and stupid and promptly rattle-canned brown/red primer over the paint to make it "cooler".

It had a roof mounted spotlight on it when I got it too... Man I wish I had that truck now.
