Re: straight axle swap??

The easiest way is to order new ones. The next and cheapest way would be to get them from a junk yard. They are rivited in and are a pain to remove. The swap has been done many times look in the build threads.

Re: straight axle swap??

I built my front ones out of box which I cut in half to make channel and then built the mounts for it to go on the frame with angle. I really wish I had pics but I don't. I then used plate and round tube to make the rear hangers. Mine were done fast and are pretty crude. It would be easy to finish them and make em pretty. On a scale of 1(first time touching a car) to 10 (work in a professional shop) I would say this project is about a 6-7. You will need a different crossmember also.... You will need power tools, torch, welder/fab skills (not very good skills needed)

Re: straight axle swap??

You will also need a 4x4 steering box unless you are going with crossover steering.

Re: straight axle swap??

Find a 4WD K-5!
There are a lot more folks looking to go the other way, seems to be a huge following for 2WD K-5's. You'd probably be money ahead, plus a lot of time!
