Talking sepentine belt conversion done

Brackets off a 92 Firebird. The CS144 alt is off a 94 Caprice with an overdrive pulley(tons of juice at idle). Havent hooked up a/c yet. I routed the belt differently then in that pic and took off the crank power pulley cause of stiff steering at idle with 33" tires . Uses a 98.0" belt with a smaller march alt pulley and stock crank pulley.

Re: sepentine belt conversion done

What's the output of the alt vs the stock unit? I still have to source my accessories for my swap (GM sbc serp to a bbc) & haven't decided what alt to use.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: sepentine belt conversion done

I personally like them because to ME they look better, and its nice only having to deal with just one belt instead of 3 like my truck has, and the tensioner keeps the belt tight but not too tight. Plus i feel its easier to carry one spare belt instead of multiple should the belt break.

that pretty much sums it up. only real down side to the serp set up is if you break a belt you loose all accessories not just 1 or 2.

True....
But, how many times have guys lost 1 v-belt that took out the other v-belts?? The serp set-up is better maintenance wise for sure.
