cleaning old weatherstrip ??

I have what appears to be mildew build up or something on all my weatherstriping. It will not come off- I tried greese lightning, ammonia, cleaners ect... but it still remains ? anyone know what to use ??? thanks

Or on the off chance it’s not actually mildew, you might try something like Goo Gone, or even WD-40. Each can remove an amazing amount of crud. If those fail, you might try a commercial cleaner like 3M Marine Mildew Stain Remover or one of the similar products. I’ve never used any so can’t attest to its effectiveness.

Try lacquer thinner, it will take most anything off.

As noted lacquer thinner will remove just about anything. I'd suggest testing it in a discreet area first because if your truck is painted in lacquer, lacquer thinner will dissolve the paint. Also if you use it on rubber parts, be sure to coat them right away with Armoral so they aren't damaged.

Another "releasing" agent is plain old alcohol. If none of the other options work you might try this, or maybe try it first because it's cheap.

thanks for the input, whatever it is its stubborn and hard to remove, I will try the laquer thinner and see how that does.
