Got 22's ?

I looked for a thread specific to squares with 22's and didn't much. If your running 22's or 20/22's post pics or links to your build. Please include tire/rim specs including backspace.

Re: Got 22's ?

Considering my options. I have no doubt that 22's are the way to go if your laid out. I'm just not sure if they would look right unless I go lower. I have never really cared for staggered sizes on squares or I would go 20/22's and call it good.

Re: Got 22's ?

Ya I have steered clear of staggered sizes on these trucks I just don't think they look right unless they are on the ground. I have actually been trying to find a truck with the same suspension setup as yours with 22s. I cant make up my mind if I want to go with PB dropmembers or the Ridetech setup like yours. Im just not certain enough that the ridetech would be enough.

Re: Got 22's ?

Ken,... I think the 22's would look great on your truck,... but you'd have too sacrifice your 40 series sidewall, and go to a 35 series to keep the total height down.
Billet Specialties has some cool looking new (pro touring style) wheels coming out,... but I like your truck just the way it is.

Any chance of calling Porterbuilt for some new suspension?

Re: Got 22's ?

Every time I "think" 22's are the way to go I see a truck with 20's that sits the same as mine and feel 22's might be too big up front. I don't really want to run 35 series, but you are correct that I don't see much choice. One more reason to stay with 20's.

I'm sure Nate would be glad to set me up with one of his mild drops, but that leads to lots more issues that I had hoped not to get in to. I don't want to cut my bed, or mod the fender liners up front so I am limited on what I can do.

Yeah I know, go big or go home....

Re: Got 22's ?

I don't know if I should post these since no one seems to like the 20 22 combo but here is my 83 20x8.5 and 22x9.5 Foose legends 265/35/20 and 285/35/22 4.5and 6 drop.

Re: Got 22's ?

Glad you decided to post the pics, your truck looks great. Don't get me wrong, I'm not banging on anyone that has the staggered size set up, it's just not my first choice. As mentioned, ride height has a significant impact on what I feel looks right for my truck.

If I were willing to make some modifications to the inner fenders or bed floor, I wouldn't hesitate to go with 22's. Since I am reluctant to do that, I might just stay with 20's.

Heres mine with 20/22's.

Re: Got 22's ?

Was that picture of your truck before or after the 4link install? Is that when you just had the AOL set up?

Re: Got 22's ?

That was with the AoL right before the 4 link. With the 4 link I can go lower in the rear, but I'm still limited on the front.

Re: Got 22's ?

Ken, I think the staggered set-up looks killer on your truck. The rears look huge but the rear fender is tucking the upper lip of the rim perfectly.

Re: Got 22's ?

I take it this for 10 series truck's. I think the 20/22 0r 22/24 combo look's good on any thing. I wanna do a 20/22 combo on one of s10's and on my Malibu wagon. I've thought about a 22/24 combo on my Dually as well.

Re: Got 22's ?

Yes, specifically looking for C10s. There are several cars/trucks that look awesome with staggered wheels on them. Some of them almost demand it due to the shape of the wheel openings.

CHROMAHOLIC's truck looks great even at this height. Hmmmm!

Here's the specs for reference-

The truck lays frame with 5/8" to spare! So with this combo a 30" front would lay!! I narrowed the rearend 2" per side, and raised the bed floor 3" to clear the fuel cell and 4-link bars.

Re: Got 22's ?

Yes, I know thats at ride height or maybe even higher. What it tells me is the 22's won't look too big at the height mine sits. If I could only find a wheel I like.

Sorry Ken,... just giving you a hard time.
I'm not really trying to push you to go lower.
I understand the "not cutting up" issue.
I'll have no plans to cut up my blazer.

But your truck would look good,...

Re: Got 22's ?

Don't wanna cross-thread, but I've heard about guys with 81-87 squares using the front fender wells from a 73-80 to get more room...true or false? Is it worth it? Does it make that big of a difference?

You got me on that one. I know they are shaped differently, so maybe they do offer more clearance.
