What does the octagon E on the 50's plates stand for??
Just got a box plates all from 1940 to 1958...
A few of the 1956's have a big E inside an Octagon Just looking for a history lesson, are these for Emergency vehicles? Can i legally sell them?

they were from "exempt" vehicles , state and county owned cars and trucks , also water/power districts , so yes emergency vehicles did have them but so did alot of other cars . im pretty sure its ok to sell them but since i doubt they can be used in ca's YOM plate program they wont bring the big bucks . they would most likely be wall hangers . maybe somebody who knows more about the YOM program could correct me but it doesnt seem like the state would let you use them
