Here is a delco radio model # decoder page

I've never seen such a problem. Does this radio have an optional stereo multiplexer on it? Do you have pics?

A multilexer makes it a stereo radio which truck radios were not. Most of them are either separate units or bolted to the radio itself. See pic. Does your model number decode to a truck radio? Do you have a pic of the unit and dimensions? With that info somebody may be able to compare directly as I haven't had one in my possession for a couple of years.

truck radio

is this multiplexer something that can just be removed? the numbers match a truck radio for this year model - i don't see a bolt where it can be removed but in between the fins there are two nipples with fastners holding them on - if i remove the fastners will the fins come off? i have seen these fins on the back but on this radio they are on the left side? help again please, Brent

I wouldn't try to do anything based upon my limited advice. If possible take pics showing your dilemma or mesure your radio for dimensions. You already know this but it should go right in based on the info you've provided. I'm bumping this to the top in hopes somebody with a unit for direct comparison can help.

It would seem that the fins would be for heat dissipation.
If you only require a small amount of clearance then you might consider shaving them some.
Does the radio sit flush with the dash?
Is there a new gasket on the wiper motor?
Maybe install the radio then the wiper motor?
What model cab did it come out of and what model is it going into?

Just a thought

Yes, I didn't state this but I don't think those fins are related to a multiplexer as these are normally bolted to the top of the unit not the side. Hutches questions are valid and a picture may clarify too.

truck radio

i will try and get pics asap - don't really know how to put them on my post so may need some help - it came out of a 72 and going in a 71 - i thought about putting the wiper motor in after the radio but did not know if it would be any better - the radio fits in the hole perfect but you cannot raise it under the dash to be level because it hits this motor - any help would be appreciated and thanks - Brent
