Newbie 1966 C10 Owner
What's up guys? I've been lurking on this forum for a bit and have to say it's the best truck site I've ever come across. With that being said, I was lucky enough to stumble upon a 66 C10 about 4 hrs away. This is my first Chevy truck. I've had quite a few cars in the past and am just looking for a cruiser to work on. The price was right so I grabbed it pretty much site unseen. I hated to do that but the price made me pull the trigger. I guess we'll see what it looks like when I get her home. Here is the info I have. The owner bought it about 12 years ago to redo and then fell into poor health so the truck has been sitting on his property. His son purchased it from him to help with some medical bills and already had a truck of his own that is is working on so just wanted to sell this one and get his money back. It's a 1966 C10 Long Bed. Has the original stock 230 high torque straight 6 with 3 on the tree. I was just looking for a truck to lower and slap some wide white walls on and drive to work as often as possible. I don't care about paint and will replace any panels that need to be. I can tell the windshield needs to be replaced and the owner says he had it running but the carb needs work and the gas tank needs to be boiled out. Here are some shots. Let me know your thoughts. Thanx guys!

Welcome to the forum
Looks like a pretty good truck. I see that someone has changed the master cylinder to a dual reservior master. I see a few rust issues, but not bad.

Re: Newbie 1966 C10 Owner
You'll be pleased with your choice for many a year......if yer anything like the rest of us.
I was looking at the dings in the fan motor and heater box.....and thought it may have been a V-8 truck that someone swapped out for a six (and got a bit impatient )... But after looking at the rest of the engine bay, it looks like it hasn't been disturbed in awhile.....so I'm still conciderin' how that could get that way. I get sidetracked once in awhile. But that rig of yours does look squared away and will make for some great times.

Re: Newbie 1966 C10 Owner
Took possesion yesterday of "krusty" and she's all I thought she would be! Somewhere down the line, someone tacked in diamond plate 1/8" steel in the bed so that's solid. Mostly what I see is the radiator is from some other vehicle and the hoses are all mickey moused around to fit and they used sink pipe to make connections. Lol. The choke knob and cable are long gone, the gas tank smells like varnish and hasn't been used in a long long time. Someone bypassed the fuel pump and ran what looks like keg lines, into the glove box area. They must have had a fuel source in there. Misc parking brake parts under the front seat. Fuse block looks ancient and some clips missing that hold in fuses. No wiper arms, no mirrors. But she is a roller and I already love her! Not sure what I'm going to tackle first but I know the motor isn't locked up so I'm good there. Will keep ya'll up to date. Looking for a set of 6 lug black steelies. Going to sell the 70s alloys and tires. Will make a "to order" "to do" list this week. Ready to dive in! Happy New Year to you all.

I dig it! Just replace the wiring, it's easy. I put in the speedway kit that's $125, super easy. Keep us updated and post pix.

Re: Newbie 1966 C10 Owner
Decided to take advantage of the warm weather and spend an hour or so on the truck today. The gas tank had been bypassed who knows how long ago and they were using something else like a gas can to run the truck. Maybe it was being used on a farm or something where they didn't have to drive far. Anyway, I got the tank out and after I pulled the fuel sending unit, I had an idea of what was in the tank. The sending unit looked like it had been sitting in black tar for the last 10 years. I emptied the tank and it was black as coffee. The tank will be cleaned/boiled and sealed this week and go back in. Took up some rubber flooring and found a big piece of galv. steel screwed in over the trans hump. Wondering if this was a 3 on the floor at one time? Slow moving but hope to have her at least started this weekend. Need to find a radiator too. I'll post pics asap.
