McGaughey's drop spindles and brake rotor thickness?

McGaughey's makes two different drop kits.......... one for 1" thick rotors and one for 1-1/4" thick rotors. I just bought an 81 C-10 and not sure what I have? How do I measure to find out which I have?

Thanks,

RIZ

Measure the thickness of the rotor where the brake pads make contact. I know my computer paint skills sucks, LOL.

I am about to measure mine as well, I can post pictures of what they are asking for. Simply remove either of the front tires and measure the thickness of the rotor itself. Again, let me know if you'd like me to take a picture for you.

How would that be acurate? Wouldn't that all depend on how wore the rotors are? I would think that way of measuring could fluctuate a 1/4" from a new rotor to a worn rotor??? Do you have to measure from pad surface to pad surface on a BRAND NEW rotor??

If your rotor is that worn you need new rotors bad.

I'm just a hobbyist but I understand pads wear rotors warp, not affecting the measurement.

The size difference between a 1" caliper and a 1 1/4" caliper is VERY noticable. You should have no problem what so ever measuring them and finding out which ones you have.

look in the dash and you'll find a "JB1 or JB3" number I forgot witch is witch but you should be able to look it up

btw, I bought spindles NIB of ebay really cheap not knowing about the two rotor sizes and I had the 1" rotors and they was for the 1 1/4" only cost me about $120 to convert my truck just swapped the rotors, calipers, bearings & brake lines to the calipers (witch I was replacing any way) since the 1 1/4" is the HD brake set

Re: McGaughey's drop spindles and brake rotor thickness?

We came across that issue also when we installed dropped spindles in my truck. The spindles were for 1" rotors and I had 1 1/4" rotors. My truck came with a 6 cylinder, so I just kinda assumed it would come with the basic 1" rotor. Had to make a run to oreillys to buy new rotors, which were fairly cheap. Went ahead and did a break job while I was there anyways. .
