New 58 3200 stepside
Hello every I'm new to the site, I just got my first project truck '58 chevy apache 3200 and I'm loving it. I have tons of plans for it and tons of questions too, I'm sure you guys can help me out. One of my biggest questions is about the stock solid axle up front verse a MII IFS conversion. I do plan on doing disk brakes up front either way I just don't want to spend the money to convert to find out I want IFS later. I also plan on doing a V8 swop for the old original 235 and swopping transmission, rear end. I plan on it being able to go fast although I'm not going to be racing I mostly want to be able to drive it around even on the highway maybe 120 tops ( I have a bit of a lead foot on the "open road"). Would the solid axle be alright with that or should I up grade for safety reasons.

Re: New 58 3200 stepside
There she is in her natural state as I found her off of I85. Last inspected in jan of 83, I wasn't even alive then. I was able to get that old rusty 235 running again burns a little oil but I expected that since it already had antifoulers in the first to cyl. Shes rough but not much rot mostly surface rust I plan on taking it down to the frame at some point and redoing everything the way I want. Thanks for the feedback enjoy the photos of the recently resurrected. |

Re: New 58 3200 stepside
either way past 100mph you have to guess
people drag race these trucks all the time. the straight axle will do it, you will need to rebuild the king pins and tie rods. probably need to rebuild the steering gear too and new wheel bearings.
