Is this possible?

My 67 Lwb has a 292 straight 6 and a 5 speed trans. The cab has a low hump, is it possible to put an automatic transmission in it? I like my 5 speed trans but due to a bad back, it's getting harder to drive.
If possible, what would be a good hook up and what would I need to make the change? Thank you all for your help.

No problem with the low hump, high hump was only big blocks and 4x4's. I'll let others tell you about the swap as all mine are auto. Good luck and happy new year!

I have a 2x2 3/4 ton 305 4spd with high hump that is bolted in to floor pan. my 68 292 3spd has small hump that is part of floor pan not bolted in like high hump.

Just go back in there and type any comment or add a cheap trick to it and you will be subscribed. Sorry about your back, mine ain't the greatest and my hands are trashed but thats the price we pay for havin all that fun when we were younger.

A th400 or th350 will fit in there fine. The high humps were for 4x4 trucks, 4 speeds, and big blocks with Anything but a 3 speed.

Any Hydromatic tranny should bolt right up. TH350 and 400 are probably the simplest to install, but lack an overdrive. The 700-R4 is very popular and the 200-4r is a good option too if you want/need overdrive. Beyond that you'll need to buy or fab up a cross member for the tranny of choice, source a radiator with the cooler provisions or run a secondary trans cooler. You'll also need to either swap the column for a unit with the automatic linkage or get a floor mount shifter. New carb linkage and driveline swap may also be neccessary. Furthermore you'll need to either tear apart your pedal assembly and remove the clutch pedal or get a pedal assembly for an automatic truck, remove your clutch linkage and find a fill plug for the hole in the firewall.
Let me know if you decide to do this- I have the pedal assembly, radiator and column if you need them, that I would possibly trade for the 5-speed you have.

Alot of folks on this board would kill to go the other way. Maybe you could work out a trade with somebody.
Don't worry about the pedals. The assemblies are the same between auto and manual. The clutch pedal slides off the end. Its obvious when you look at it.
After I did the swap it took about a year to stop trying to push the missing clutch pedal at start up and at stop signs.

I did the exact swap on my old 67. Event went and swapped out the straight 6 for a built small block. Did it all on my back in my dad's driveway with hand tools. Not near as bad as it may seem...
