Has anyone purchased a transmission lift from Harbor Freight and what do U think about it?

Re: transmission lift
The only good reasoned any self respecting American has for stepping into a Harbor Freight store has is to pour gasoline and throw lit matches. Buy American unless you're comfortable having your job be given to a chinaman.
/rant Only real transfer jacks I've used are stand ups for use under a lift. I've used a motorcycle /ATV Jack with good luck. Wouldn't take much work to make a trans adapter for a floor jack Posted via Mobile Device |

I built one, it's crude but it works, Neighbor has one and says it's ok.

Re: transmission lift
I've used a friends several times now. It leaks, the tabs bend easily and it doesn't roll very smoothly. It does make removing an automatic tranny much easier than using nothing or a floor jack though. For the price I'd say it's worth it if you're only going to use it very occasionally, if you're going to change 10 trannys though you should probably get something much better. Just to use once or twice though I'd rather struggle a little with the HF than spend 3 times the money and have it sit around all the time.

Re: transmission lift
I got the adapter that goes on a floor jack at it works. I managed to pull an SM-465 with 208 transfercase attached, but the setup is scary as hell. For some reason the Chinese designed to have like a hinging action, I would not be surprised to hear of someone losing fingers using their combo. If you let the transmission roll too far back on the jack it just falls on the floor jack completely, its not all that stable.

Re: transmission lift
I got one of them floor jack adaptors. I've tried to use it a couple times. I think of throwing it in the scrap pile often when I see it on the shelf.

Re: transmission lift
I have been happier with my "Duralast" floor jack adapter from Autozone, then the "Duralast" jack (gotta add fluid once a month). It is hard to justify a high grade tool that is only going to be used a few times a year.

You're right Snap-On is a total rip off. We should all buy every tool we need at harbor Freight and greg smith. While we're at it we should stop buying anything made in America. I mean, why do we want to try and support the American economy? We need to get rid of these pesky American manufacturing jobs! |

Re: transmission lift
i just got one of the HF trans jacks for xmas. looks like decent quality but not exceptional. and compared to using a piece of wood and a floor jack on a lifted truck, ill take the $80 made in china peice anyday.
