Original brake booster

Hey all, I went to a junk yard yesterday and found a 1965 C10 in the yard. I walked up to it and noticed a brake booster sitting on the air cleaner housing. I bought the booster (horizontal bracket) and brought it home thinking this would be great for my disc brake swap. Question to everyone is if the brake booster needs a wedge piece or mounting piece of some kind? I have this booster but the holes don't line up.

any guesses?

Re: Original brake booster

What did you do drop it or forgot the wedge piece. Captain fab sells a bracket.

Re: Original brake booster

This was what was lying there. I have no idea, I was going to run manual brakes until I saw this. Is there supposed to be a wedge piece?

Re: Original brake booster

There is a piece that fits between the booster and firewall.

Re: Original brake booster

There is an alum. wedge between the booster and firewall, it is only necessary if you are running the 292 to clear the aircleaner. Captainfab sells an adapter that will use the 3 bolts on the firewall and the 4 bolts on the booster. you will need the rod from the pedal to the booster also.

Complete set ups are pretty rare, I have been hoarding parts for over 20 years and only have 3 complete setups.

Re: Original brake booster

Yes, you will need the aluminum wedge on the firewall to mount that booster. You may be able to fabricate one if you have the tools and skills to do so. My booster bracket will not work with that booster. You would need a different type of booster.

Re: Original brake booster

Here is a picture of one I picked up at a swap meet this fall. It shows the Alum. wedge bracket, the tapered phillips bolts and the rod to the pedal.

Re: Original brake booster

I was in the LQK junk yard today and saw several brake boosters. My 64 C10 truck has manual drum brakes. what year trucks can I get a brake booster off of and will bolt up to my truck for power drum brakes. Also should I use dual master cylinder or keep the single one. Im going to get 6 lug disc upgrade one day but its futher down the todo list right now.

Re: Original brake booster

What booster to use depends on how you want to go about mounting it. There are a few later model boosters that will work with my booster brackets, which bolts to your firewall using existing holes. Or you can use a '73-'87 booster and drill some holes to mount it. For the master cylinder, you will want a '67-'70 truck master for power brakes.
