'47-'54 No-running-boards pics please
I really like the look of the '47-'54 AD trucks without the running boards but I cannot find many pics of them. Please post pics of your board-less trucks. Thanks!

Re: '47-'54 No-running-boards pics please
They look good with a shortened bed and with the bottom of the cab sitting close to the ground. but that leaves a big gap between the bottom of the truck and the ground on truck that sits at normal ride height.
This is an old photo of one of my buddy's trucks from when it was sitting on a 65 Chevelle frame that had been modified a bit and had a 427 in it. The bed is from a long bed from the second post back. The truck is now in the middle of a long term rebuild. |

Here is one that I had. I don't care for it (but to each their own). It looks like they also cut down the bottom of the front and rear fenders.

Here's my 3600. I just don't have the boards on yet.
All joking aside these trucks need running boards. |

I swiped this one off the net But I used to go by it a couple times a week. Every time I took a picture of it that one was missing when I got the pics developed!

Re: '47-'54 No-running-boards pics please
In all seriousness, I have only seen a couple pictures online and there were significant mods made such as dropping the cab in relation to the bed and fenders, or cutting off the bottoms of the fenders.

Re: '47-'54 No-running-boards pics please
Anyway I think the running boards look cool. the only problem is keeping peoples kids off of them. I am thinking about making snap on covers and using polished stainless boat snaps. just a thought.

At one time I consider slicing the back of the fender in two an using the back top corner of an opposite side fender to make the curved bottom of the front fender while not running running boards. I even made a drawing of it once but that is long gone or stuck in the archives. On a stock framed truck even with a filler panel below the cab I just don't think it would look right without the boards. |

Not to get too far off topic here, but my big gripe is people putting their foot on my new chrome bumpers. People even do it at shows and local cruise-ins. Last edited by Russell Ashley; 01-01-2012 at 02:59 PM. Reason: added info |

Re: '47-'54 No-running-boards pics please
There is one around here that the boards are sprayed with bed liner it looks pretty good with flat black paint.

Now this looks good! It all depends on stance and the wheels and tires.

Re: '47-'54 No-running-boards pics please
One solution is to put anti slip stick on pads on the raised strips of the running board.
The problem with no running boards is the beating the paint takes on the front of the rear fender. Opps not a AD |

I used bedliner on my RB's - hate the thought of trying to get perfect paint on them and then having people (insert: kids at shows) step on that paint. I actually lined my bed and spray the running boards. Had the inside of the bed sprayed, sanded and buffed out...then I thought about what a cooler was going to do to that paint.... >.< |

Re: '47-'54 No-running-boards pics please
Personally I don't like putting anything extra on the running boards. I also agree that scratches suck. One idea that just came to mind. If you have smooth running boards (like me) is to us that clear 3M tape that they use on the front of expesive cars to keep from getting chips and bug guts all over. You could put a layer of that on the running boards and it would offer protection without looking like a wart....
