Brake bleeding tips

For those of you that are bleeding brakes and are having trouble getting them started, grab your favorite color balloon, or condom ( for those that have-not been cut ) place it over your shop vac, and place over the bleeder valve, I saw it for the first time today and it worked great, they hit all four wheel cylinders in about a minute, finished up with a manual pump ( foot ) and was done in ten minutes total. Note ( not responsible for the impromptu looks from your other half )

Re: Brake bleeding tips

I hate to seem dense but Im having a hard time picturing this. I place a balloon over my shop vac? Then I place the same balloon over my bleeder valve? And that is supposed to do something? Like bleed my brakes? Am I missing something? Is this some sort of inside joke? I dont get it.

I could use a few tips on bleeding my brakes though, since it sometimes gives me problems. Doing all four wheels in under a minute sounds way too good to be true. Or am I missing the joke?

Re: Brake bleeding tips

The condom will wrap itself around the bleeder valve if held just right, then it will draw itself into the vaccum drawing te fluid down into the lines, the condom is jusst to keep from drawing everything into the vaccum, I guess you could do the same wit an old tire pump just be reversing the valving in it or any kind of vaccum device for that matter, you could make one out of pvc pipe by sleaving two together with a line to put right over the bleeder valve and drawing the inside sleave out thereby sucking the fluid down to the wheel cylinder.

Re: Brake bleeding tips

what i wound up doing was was taking a garden sprayer with a small nozzle on the end of the hose and just filling the brake lines then reconnecting them to the m/c and well it didnt take me a minute but it took me less than 10

I've done the same thing, but using a turkey flavor injector without the needle. Worked like a charm!
