Crank?

I have a crank that was supposed to be for a 53 Chevy car, when I got it I found that it was way different. I don't have any experience with the older engines but was told it was a babbit crank. It is new with new rods, is there any need for these? I was told by 1 person that it was just a expensive boat anchor.

Re: Crank?

If its new it certainly has some value. What is it for? What casting number is it?

I am sure there are some people over on Stovebolt.com that would be interested in it.

From memory, I think a 53 Chevy car would have had a babbit crank if it did not have a PowerGlide tranny. If it doesn't fit your engine you might have a later model engine or an engine that came in a car with PowerGlide. I think this was the last year for any babbit cranks and all 54's had inserts.

Re: Crank?

It is a power glide trans. So maybe that is why it was on the one I needed

Re: Crank?

If it is new it is either worth cash or some good trading material with one of the guys running a stock engine of that year and model. You have to figure out exactly what it is and then hit the right market though.

Casting number should be on the first or second throw of the crank. If you have a set of rods for the crank then you have about $250 worth of parts. The problem with this old stuff is it cost a lot to ship and a lot to regrind so if you have a good crank and rods its going to sell on ebay of stovebolt.com.

Value depends on what it is.
