wiring harness help please

58 apache resto going strong, have engine being rebuilt and tranny freshend up. Cleaning up engine bay and just removed bed. Previous owner hacked up wiring harness. Who sells the best and easiest replacment harnesses? Truck has a 283 V8 with HEI and alternator. Want to replace harness front to back. It does not have factory signal switch but I do have the clamp on style. How do i hook up a flasher with this? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

EZ Wiring makes a fairly inexpensive kit and it's fairly straight forward

I agree with the EZ wireing as well.
I have tried others, but you cant go wrong with this one. I have it on my 56 and took me about 5 hrs to complete.

The best wiring harness is American Auto Wire, more complete than anyother kit on the market but it comes with a bigger price tag.. I've not used EZ wire but all you guys can't be wrong..

I used a harness from Rebel wire on my 57. I am very happy with the quality of the harness and his customer service.

Unless you are bent on having a "just like original" harness Rebel Wire has a good reputation and they have the reputation of answering your questions when they come up.

Wiring is one place where quality and service after the sale trump price but I believe that they are more than competitive on price.

I used American Autowire and I'm very happy with it. Whichever one you get, good crimpers, shrink tubing and wire cover is key to have it come out right.

Rick is local to me and I've known him since 1978, so if you have problems I'll go over and beat on him.

I'm another satisfied EZWire user. I think it was a good deal at $180 for the 21 circuit kit but be aware that you have to put the tips on the wires. Like Renegade said, get a good crimping tool, a good supply of connectors, and lots of shrink tubing. I'm not totally comfortable with the standard crimp connections so I soldered most of mine. Also be aware that they assume that you are using a GM style column so it is designed to plug into that. I'm keeping the original column and turn signals so I had to modify mine some.

For the flashers, they are listed in a brothers ctalog as part no# 53-562 or 53-564(led). I'm sure others have them for sale as well.
I almost went with an american autowire. My buddy put thier harness in his 62 impalla, its top shelf stuff. I ended up getting a great deal on a custom harness and install i couldnt refuse for the $$$.
If you have a factory org. or are doing a high end build do the autowire. If its a beater like mine do the rebel harness.

I've installed Rebel, AAW, and a EZ wire kits a few times (and a few off shore 'china kits' in race cars but they are not meant to last more than 1 season).

For a decent kit Rebel, AAW, and a EZ all make good kits, it depends on your budget and experience,
AAW is great but cost the most, the instructions are by far the best and you get everything you will ever need in the kit.
Rebel and EZ are a little more basic but are more than adequate for any project, you do need a slight amount of common sense to read through the instructions because they are somewhat generic and there are very little diagrams just a few where needed, you may need to purchase some things that are needed for your specific set up and connections, in some cases that could add anywhere from $20 to $100+ to the final cost in some cases.

IMHO if you have a basic set up and a modest budget be realistic and spend what you can on a good kit that will get the job done with minimal hassles, in the end if it's done right any of these kits will be reliable and no one will see much of the wiring anyway.

all aftermarket universal harnesses come with connectors for newer gm columns.
it does make it easy to wire up this way. if your using an old column you just need to butt splice the right wires.
new headlight connectors are in the kit, but you need to reuse all the old bulb sockets.
the universal fit has a lot of wire to do a long car, i mounted my fuse panel on the drivers firewall and ran the front harness thru the pass firewall to the front.
not standard practice but i had plenty of wire.

I just installed one today from Classic on my '50 3/4 ton . It is the best $150 I spent so far on the truck. The one I purchased was for the alternator setup. All the wires were easily marked and the terminal ends right where they are suppose to be with the proper wire terminal. The only addition I had to make was adding a wire for my A/C compressor and a lead for my electric fuel pump. The worst part was working under the dash but you will have that with any harness. This harness was wired for the turn signals front/back.
