Re: modify or ditch it ????
That is one of the earlies attempts at rear anti-lock brakes. My '86 K30 has same. You could build a drop bracket for it, but I would be tempted to eliminate it. Will make running dual exhaust a lot easier...

Re: modify or ditch it ????
I ran my own exhaust, and as for now, the shock on that side is out because either it had to go or the brake stuff. Probably should of killed the brake stuff on mine, but it is just a farm truck.

Re: modify or ditch it ????
Those were a pain , company trucks were a constant complaint . Finally bypassed all of them and got rid of those valves ...And the complaints

Re: modify or ditch it ????
its kinda of a cool....the more weight you load in the bed the more rear braking powr u have, but after pouring money into this truck i wont be using it to haul wood or hay or anything like that and my camp trailor has its own brakes so I,ll probably get rid of it

Re: modify or ditch it ????
Most of the trucks I've owned or worked on that had those, they either leaked, or didn't work. I'd ditch it.

Re: modify or ditch it ????
The company trucks would get in trouble with the trailer type air compressors . In a panic stop it would take weight off the back and leave you without rear brakes

Re: modify or ditch it ????
you could always ditch the factory setup and go with an aftermarket unit. ..they're much smaller and you can locate them out of the way.

Re: modify or ditch it ????
Cool to see another K30 being saved! How bout some pics or a build thread?
Here's mine. I found it after a long search about 12 years ago. It was pretty clapped out as it was an old logging crummy from the east cascades. The underside had "can-opener" cuts in every concievable hole or corner from chain hooks. I've put a lot of work and parts into this thing over the years. As soon as I can find a decent bed and tailgaite, I'll squirt some paint on there (the original red). Bear in mind, this thing's purpose in life is still hard work. It's not ever going to be sweetheart.

Re: modify or ditch it ????
That'd be the little knuckle-head doing the driving. He'll be licensed next year if he can get is poop in a group at school. At that time we'll see if we can find him a Geo Metro
