Oil pressure safety switch? Will this one work?

Our truck where built with a safety mechanism called an oil pressure safety switch. I was going to omitt mine but once I understood how it worked I really like the idea.

Instead of just waiting on your gauge to tell you that you suddenly lost oil pressure the switch is designed to shut your engine off before it is damaged by shutting off power to your electric choke when it sees a drop in oil pressure.

The only one I have found that comes close is THIS ONE.

Stops electric fuel pump when engine stops to prevent fuel from continuing through the system in the event of an accident
• Important safety feature when installing universal fuel pump
• Use with any universal in-line electric fuel pump

I am assuming this switch will work. The original switch tapped off a Y where your oil sending unit is located. This switch fed a 3 wire plug.
One wire feeds off of your ignition
Second Wire feeds to the choke light. (idiot light to tell you that you've lost oil psi.)
Last wire feeds to the Choke itself.

From what I understand the plug I listed works the same, except instead of feeding the choke, it feeds an electric fuel pump.

What do you think?

I don't know that cutting power to the choke would kill the engine very fast. I think ignition would be better. Even if you cut power to the fuel pump the engine could run for a couple seconds on whats in the carburetor

Re: Oil pressure safety switch? Will this one work?

So would you recommend running the 'choke' wire to the ignition wire on my HEI instead of to the electric choke on my carb?

That would work right? When u turn the engine over it instantly has oil pressure which would in turn activate your ignition wire on the hei with 12 volts of power.

(I'm running a mechanical fuel pump but I agree with the whole electrical fuel pump/carb full of fuel dilemma.)

Will this switch work or does anyone know where I can find the proper switch I need?

Thanks!

Re: Oil pressure safety switch? Will this one work?

I ended up getting one through napa. I cant remember the part number but we went through the catalog until we found the right one. If I were you I would just wire it up the way its supposed to be done. What it will do is keep your choke from getting power if it doesnt register the oil pressure. My pressure switch was located just above the oil filter. I ran in to a clearance issue when I tried the one from autozone and pep boys because the one they carried was too short. I now know it was for a t fitting and would have worked fine like that but I really liked the idea of having it above the oil filter where mine was originally located. I also remember it being a 2 pronged plug and not three pronged. one prong had 2 wires in and the other had one.
