I would like your opinion
Ok, I'm working on my dash and I'm not sure what layout I want to use... I have a clean canvas and want to make sure it's unique but functional
I played with photoshop last night and finished up three layouts to get a look at the finished product. It's not quite to scale, but very close and I measured to confirm that everything will fit. I have the decal for the VA A/C controls to look proper laying horizontal like I have it shown. (It's currently labeled for vertical installation) On layout #3, I figured that I would mount the radio behind the seat with the amp and sub woofers. Let me know what you think and if you have any other suggestions, I would greatly appreciate them Layout #1 Layout #2 Layout #3 Thanks! |

Re: I would like your opinion
I like #2. 3 is not bad as well. I like the gauges mounted in the dash.

Re: I would like your opinion
I vote 2 - seems like the best placement for everything without the gauges hanging

Re: I would like your opinion
Can you do #1 and put the gauges in the actual dash cluster? #2 looks a little busy to me but I would have to have the stereo in the dash as Im always screwing with the volume or skipping a tune; eliminating option #3 for me. Overall I think they all look nice and good job on the photoshop.
Center the gauge pod under the controls with layout #1???

Re: I would like your opinion
I say #2, then #1, and I wouldnt even consider #3 at all with the gauges in that spot.

Re: I would like your opinion
Thanks for the replies guys
I'm thinking #2 as well. My wife likes it most. I kinda think it looks too busy, but I would like to get the gauges out from under the dash... I'm planning to take them apart and refinish them in tan like the instrument cluster that I did. I thought about putting them in the instrument cluster, but there is only room for 2 and I just don't like how the gauges look small in the two big round blank spaces. I have a few more ideas that might work, but will take more time in PS to create. Maybe tomorrow, gotta get to bed since 3am gets here quick... Thanks again for the input and keep it coming . |

Re: I would like your opinion
sorry for my lame paint skills but i think it would look best with the radio and heater controls flip-flopped and the under dash gauges centered under the raido and heater controls.....maybe you could actually photo shop it LOL.......just a thought..

I'm firmly with protrash on this.. do #1 and redo the cluster with your gauges in the cluster.

I agree with Heater63 and protrash. If that isn't an option, then I vote #2.

i think it would be neat if you set the left side of the gauges a little further back than the right side so they are angled toward the driver

I thought of that option too, so I went out and measured the depth of the radio but unfortunately it hits the wiper motor and won't work... thanks for the suggestion though Quote:
I also think I'll PS the cluster with the gauges and add a trans temp gauge to even it up. I'll post more ideas tonight if I get time. Thanks for all the input guys . |

Re: I would like your opinion
Less is more in most cases. I would really try to get the stock gauges to work or put them in the gauge cluster. I have radios under the seat and in the glove box. Kinda a pain to use if your a figiter station song changer like me...
Another idea is mount the the guages all to the left of the steering colum so the middle dash is uncluttered as most people see that the most. How often do you check your gauges when your driving? Really? Once you have established the truck has good oil pressure and temp...I really dont check them while driving. Maybe at a light or when I pull in to park some where. Tachs? unless I am racing, I like it somewhere that it is less intrusive to the eye as well. On he colum looks so right to me... Lastly, I would leave the volt gauge out completely unless you have issues with the truck. Long and short of it is...make it exactly how you like it!

Cool work though... I really like this approach and may steal the idea. What AC system are you using that uses that controller?

Re: I would like your opinion
If putting the gauges in the instrument bezel is not an option, then I also agree with number 2, or maybe flip-flop the gauges and heater controls in #3.
