Considering a C Notch in my truck - need opinions and input please
I am considering a Notch in my 69. The back is low now but still needs to come down some.
What brand would you recommend? I am thinking Porterbuilt but are there pros and cons by brand? The PB just looks stronger to me. I don't know, never done it before. What's the best way to cut the notch out? Will a Ziz wheel cut it? Do I need a Plasma cutter or ?? How do you guys cut it? I'm thinking I will just get the PB Stage 2 kit. I am discussing an ECE notch on another post .. are they ok? I can't find them on the ECE site. Thanks.

Re: Considering a C Notch in my truck - need opinions and input please
PB's bolt-in notch is 'multi-piece' which helps replace some of the frame strength lost when cutting the notched section out.
CPP also make a thicker, bolt-in, HD unit that's a good choice as well.

Re: Considering a C Notch in my truck - need opinions and input please
I recently fabbed up my own c-notch from 1/8th" flat stock. I simply took the measurements for my center line. made 2 60* bends and traced it out for a cut template. I could have made it a bolt on, but I was doing it while I was boxing in the frame, seems stiffer than it ever was. Wish I had a pic to post up.
It seems to me that your final purcahse decision should also depend on how far your total drop is going to be. I know you haven't mentioned "slamming" it. But how low is low? P.S. your cutting tool is going to depend on your level of patience. I have cut my long bed down with a sawz all, just not fun. I finally coined up and bought a plasma cutter, but for that little bit of cutting I wouldn't reccomend buying one. I really think a good angle grinder and cut off wheel might be your best option for that cut, which ever tool you use, make sure the frame is setting nice and level on jack stands. I knocked mine off the jack stands after cutting, it will bend :-( |

I've used the CPP notch and it is great, plus for less than $100 shipped to your door of eBay, you can't beat that price.

Re: Considering a C Notch in my truck - need opinions and input please
X3 I am running a CPP notch in my blazer. I used a zip disc to cut out the notch. It didn't take too long at all. All in all I think it took me about 4 hrs to do the whole job.

My first choice would be to support or Forum Vendors. If I felt the need to order from a non supporting Vendor, I would look in our Feedback Forum and base my choice on Vendors with the best feedback.

Re: Considering a C Notch in my truck - need opinions and input please
$199 I believe, not sure. I got the notch and the upper shock bar, and it was $369 shipped. .. somewhere in that range.
I'm planning to get the frame braces, drop trailing arms, and lower shock relocation too (as soon as I can) Nate is talking about bags, maybe Shrader bags .. we'll see what happens. I probably will not be too terribly difficult to talk into it.

Here is the C-Notch I put in my 87. This c-notch also goes over the top of the frame. I had a quarter inch plate made to give it more strength.

Re: Considering a C Notch in my truck - need opinions and input please
I really like the Pb notch, but the cost is double the Cpp notch. But cause Nate's customer service and the fact that he is a forum vendor will ensure that I buy the notch for my 68 from him.

Re: Considering a C Notch in my truck - need opinions and input please
I think bags would be great....and bags with schrader valves aren't much more than drop springs...but give you some adjustment if you ever wanted to load anything in the back (can add some air) AND it lets you dial in ride height exactly.....

You took all my money punk !! Lol .. kidding.
I have to save up for the drop arms, will probably put (pretty much) the rest of the stage two kit on it when I can afford it.
