My 58 Apache stepside (pics soon)
Here's my project, a 1958 Chevy Apache. I have always wanted a 50's Chevrolet truck. My uncle had a 55 when I was a kid and I always admired the lines and style of these trucks. Now that I'm in my 40's I can finally afford to work on a project like this. I took some time last spring to knock down my dads old garage and built a decent little shop (24' X 30') with a 24' X 20' carport and a little office/ bathroom. It's got pretty much everything but a lift (working on getting one this year). I originally started to work on my 92 Trans Am convertible but once I got the truck the TA has been put on the shelf. I have learned a lot from this forum and from working on the 58. The engine (283) has been sent out for a rebuild and my 3 speed tranny has been freshened up wit with new bearings, gaskets, and seals.I've taken off the bed and front end to clean and paint the frame. All fenders have had some kind of crappy work done to them so I'm not sure if I'm going to repair them or buy new, doors the same. The grille and bumpers will get new Chrome parts and the truck needs a new wire harness. Last will be trim, glass, and fresh upholstery. Lots of time and money will be needed, but I will end up with a nice truck when it's done. Also a few good friends from this forum I hope.

i'm a new member here from michigan, i'm trying really hard not to hate all you guys from texas, new mexico, arizona and california for all the sweet iron you guys can get. all we get in the rust belt is rust. all those patch panels you see in the truck sites is made for us...

Thanks, if you noticed I forgot to install the green signal indicator lense tubes. I took it apart and installed them later.

Sweet truck. I'm in the market for this style myself. Where did you come across it?
What part of Humble are you in? I used to live in Summerwood and my mom is still out there. Then I moved to Fall Creek for a while. I'm out in Pearland now. |

Re: My 58 Apache stepside (pics soon)
I got my truck near Dallas, in Burleson. Check CL, there are guys out there always selling these old trucks. I live in Humble near the airport. Do you own a truck now?

Re: My 58 Apache stepside (pics soon)
No. I don't own one as of yet, but I've been looking. I took your advice and searched the Dallas area on Craigslist and they have a few. I was using Searchtempest to look, but they only list like the last 3-5 days. So I'd been missing out on a few. I'm going to keep looking. The '55-'57 trucks are the coolest. Plus Porterbuilt is coming out with a dropmember for these model years.

Re: My 58 Apache stepside (pics soon)
Just got my uphostry back from the shop last week. Had the seat, visors, and door panel inserts done. He made the inserts himself. Not bad. The visors were done in the white vinyl. The black fabric came from a company that handles vintage auto fabrics and the vinyl was bought locally and matches the white used on the truck.

Re: My 58 Apache stepside (pics soon)
I dont have the info with me now but its from a company who only handles vintage materials. It had impala under the sample but not sure what year. Kinda pricey too, cost $85 yrd. Plus shipping. I will post the info as soon as i find it. The guy was nice that i spoke to and sent an email with samples that same day. Pleased with product and service.
