My first build, 1972 C10 Custom
I am fairly new to the forum, so I hope to get a chance to meet some of you and learn tips along the way. So far, this forum ROCKS!
Here are some pics of my work in progress. It is not a daily driver, but I use it often for my work to get materials for certain jobs. I build custom cabinets so a truck is a must. Hoping next year to start a frame off restoration. For now I am going to get the body work done and decent coat of paint to get me by until finances can allow me to do it right, and somewhere to keep my truck while working on it. Bought it for $250 about 10 years ago with a locked up 307 and the truck was in bad shape. Have down some upgrades since then as money allowed. It has a rebuilt 350 that was bored .060 when I got it and I put Vortec heads on it and all painted with Por-15. The motor runs strong and sounds great. It breathes with an Edelbrock 600cfm carb and an HEI ignition setup. Will find my pics of the engone work and post them later. Other than the fenders and under the cab (supports), the body is in good shape other than the bed rust spots. Any good way to fix these besides cut and weld? Re: My first build, 1972 C10 Custom
I am married with 2 small kids and working on my truck with a limited budget. I have some new parts for it, for after the bodywork is done. New mirrors, door handles, front clear turn signal lenses
, new rubbers and seals. What ideas do you guys have on making this turn heads but not really a show truck? Any ideas will be great. Thanks. |

Found a few pics of the 350 with paint and the new goodies on it. Will be changing to a better carb or fuel injection someday. Sorry for the crappy pics, was from me cell phone.

Those Heim style ends are the way to go for applications like that alternator. Looks great.

Re: My first build, 1972 C10 Custom
Thanks, the alt bracket I got off of e-bay for about 25 bucks, so well worth it. The Por-15 blue engine paint is (chevy blue 51'-62') that I preferred over chevy orange. I wanted something different :-)

Re: My first build, 1972 C10 Custom
I need to rebuild it and maybe change the jets. Not sure what it needs after putting on the vortec heads. Alot better than the stocks heads that were on there. Actually had two different numbered heads on there, but basically the same head. I was getting around 15 on the interstate when I drove to Memphis, was about 10-12 before, so I can't complain about the gas mileage. In town is a different story with my lead foot and making the import guys look bad, lol. They just see an old chevy truck and laugh until I leave them sitting there with their jaws open.

Re: My first build, 1972 C10 Custom
This is my inspiration for the inside of my truck. Mine will be black and grey also and doing my dash similar to that.

Re: My first build, 1972 C10 Custom
Bought a few parts to fix the cab floor and supports but nothing installed yet. Trying to find the time to do it. Seems there is always something else needing done first, lol. Will post pics when I do start fixing the truck.

What a gorgeous truck, any idea where the billet grille came from? I'm trying to get one and not spend my life savings on it haha

Re: My first build, 1972 C10 Custom
It was an aftermarket. I don't remember where I got it, Was several years ago, but it wasn't that expensive. Just check around and see. I am slowly buying up parts for it when I can afford, which is the hard part. Someday I hope to have it looking as good as some of the trucks being shown on this site.
