O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

Has anyone ever bought parts from them? Are they good and reliable?

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

I have had no problems with them. Check other sellers, especially if buying online. Buy GM/Delco OEM from other online sellers if possible - price may be comparable.

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

I prefer O'rielly over the other chain stores. I do feel it is dependent on the area youre in, and the employees/management. Mine has several old guys that have a wealth of knowledge, are helpful, and patient. However, NAPA is a good source for small hardware, springs, etc that these newer chains dont carry anymore. But, Orielly has or has gotten everything I needed with exception to small parts, and specialty items like my proportioning valve I went to CPP for.

Well my neighbor works there and he told me he can get parts for my truck there cheap so I was just trying to get and idea of the place before I bought from them. At my house we have always used Autozone and Advanced Auto.

So you would go back to them for your other needs?

I prefer o Reilly to other auto stores. Prices are usually better, I can find parts there autozone and others don't carry and seem to be better staffed.

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

My father in law went to work for them after retiring from ARCO. He has been with them several years and they really treat him good. The one I use here in town is great. The most knowledgeable person there, is a woman. She really knows her stuff.

That's awsome I'm 17 right now and he told me when I turn 18 he can get me a job there too. So I from what you are all saying that it's a great place to buy parts.

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

I usually go to Advanced Auto Parts. We have an account with them through work, do I get awesome prices on a lot of stuff. NAPA turned me off after walking in and asking for a 40 amp five wire relay with a mounting tab and getting directed to the isle with flashers. Then at the counter having the "we can't look it up if we don't know what it's for" argument. I explained a few times to the guy I needed it because I was putting an electric cooling fan into a car that came with a belt driven fan. And once I went there looking for a set of fel-Pro 1250 intake gaskets (large port SBF intake set) and again had the "what's it for" argument, then was told it would be two weeks to get and like $50, went to advance and got them next day for $28 with no arguments. It seems every time I go into a parts store I'm looking for something odd, but I'm super impressed with the knowledge and effort put forth by the people at the Advanced I deal with. Went there looking for a master cylinder for a 1994 Mustang Cobra, girl had no problems spending 1/2 an hour on the phone tracking one down. Take back a gas tank that had fuel put in it and no box? No problem. Never had an issue with the quality of parts they sold, prices are great, people are great. Win win win. And I'll take good people over good prices any day.

Yeah we usually use Autozone out here because they are cheaper and more helpful than the people at Advanced Auto. But again I have never even stepped foot in a O'Reilly store and I have a chance to get cheap parts from them and work there so I really need all the opinions I can get thanks.

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

Oreilly seems to have the best quality of parts, even their base line of parts is still pretty good. Be careful with Autozone's valuecraft line though....it's basically the cheapest of the cheap. Good if your repairing a car to sell, but not if you plan to keep it and expect reliability.

I always check with Rock Auto (www.rockauto.com) before I buy parts local. Sometimes it cheaper, sometimes not. I've made some pretty significant saving though. Having the entire parts catalog at your disposal is nice too.

The reason I want to know about O'Reilly is because I can get a employees discount and some more.

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

I think it mainly depends on the area. As far as prices O'Reilly is great, but in my area they're dumber than a doorknob. Down here if we're lookin' for specifics we got to go to napa because they have the most knowledgeable employees

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

My understanding is that they are VERY particular about employee purchases. No family or friends, just for the employee. I can only imagine how many employees get bugged by everyone for a discount to their "buddy".

Not around here, they are dying for any business they can get, and that's not just auto parts stores. And I never asked for the discount he offered to get it for me so it was all his idea I'm not pressuring him into it he offered.

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

I have found that the quality of all the chain stores depends entirely on the staff.
I also found that most of them carry the same parts. You can look on their websites and see the manufacturer part number.
If I am not in a rush for the part, I use amazon.com.
Just use autozone or oriellys web site to find the mfg number and look it up on amazon. They have some of the best prices and free shipping.

Sorry, to answer your question.... Oriellys parts are good (certainly as good or better than autozone and advanced) and service depends on the employees. I wouldn't use them for years because they screwed me around on a new water pump that went bad in 50 miles.
I currently use them and Napa (get a little better pricing with a work account).

in my experience O'reilly is the best auto place to go to, and they have the best price guarantee (but online places like rock auto usually have better prices, but you have to wait to get it in the mail)

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

Good on O'Reilly s.
Advance, AZ, O'Reilly's all within 1/4 mi. of each other, their staff at their particular store seems to have the best customer service and knowledge. Even NAPA staff locally isn't quite up to par (imo). O'Reillys were the only ones locally that were able to get a couple springs for my q-jet, even with me supplying the Edelbrock PN.

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

Anything that is commonly available I get at O'Riellys. I went to the NAPA, AutoZone, and Advance near my place and all of them only know what something is by looking in the book. The O'Riellys people (at least here) know what they are talking about and actually help out. Plus since we are up there all the time (my truck, the cars, and the other work trucks) we get a "mechanic" discount or something.

These are just from my experience. There could be better AutoZones and NAPA's out there though.

Alright thanks for all the help from everyone, I think I'm going to go ahead and buy the parts from O'Reilly. Thanks everyone for the help.
