subs rubbing on seat need help

I have a 1987 silverado single cab with a truck box and 2 10" kicker comps and the seat is moved forward fully. and they rub on the back piece of vinyl that covers the back of the seat, how can i solve this problem, it is actually rubbing some of the foam subwoofer surround off. thanks

don't have an answer for ya but I have a question.. can you hear the vinyl "slap" against the speaker? I'm starting my audio build and am worried I will have that problem...

Sounds like you need a narrower box or some real short legs. I'm in the process of buliding a box to fit snug against the back wall so I know where yout at.

Is there a reason you're not using a grill?

It's very possible you could even if his doesn't. If you can't build the box to make up this room, grills are your best bet. I had this issue with my S10, so I built the box, and then put another 3/4" piece of MDF around the front so the speakers looked recessed. My speakers don't hit my seats but the excursion isn't that much on them.

I'd put some on before doing anything else...the cheapest and easiest fix hopefully.

Re: subs rubbing on seat need help

There is no slapping on the seat just that the seat is eating the surrounding of the sub.

I have the same issue and no room to run grilles. My seat has rough carpet on the back of it so thats probably not helping. Im thinking a smaller box with an extra layer of mdf on the front so the subs can be recessed a little bit and not hit the seat so much.

Re: subs rubbing on seat need help

I drive an 85 single cab with 2 12's behind the seat, its not quite all the way back but the subs don't slap the seat. just get a box made for a single cab. I got mine from hifisoundconnection.com

http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/S...id/0/SFV/30046

Thats the same one I have but mine is for 12's not 10's

Re: subs rubbing on seat need help

like king said make a ring to go extend the protection of the speaker
or recess the speaker into the box this would be my choice
if it's a carpeted box this would be easy to do, a little more challenging if it's painted

not a good pic but i recessed my ring when i made the box

if you have your seat all the way forward the box is wrong for your truck
while i made mine to fit my 58 this would be an easy box to adapt to any truck
i'm tall and designed this box to have the seat against the back window
