63 c10 dual master cylnder and brake line splitting question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

So it's time for me to upgrade my old single master cylinder to a dual power brake mc. I have read the awesome ChiefRocka thread but still have a question or two. The brake line on the rear of my truck are 3/16 and the fronts are 1/4 . I see that there are adapters from 3/16 to 1/4 but what I am wondering is do I need to get some type of proporting vavle or is it ok to just use the adapter and run a 1/4 inch line from the adapter straight to the new mc? Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated. This is my first time posting.

just run it with the adapter in line you should not need the proportioning valve unless you are going to disk brakes.

For drum/drum brakes, no proportioning valve is needed. If you wanted to, you could run the metering block like they used on the '67-'70's, but it is not absolutely necessary.

Thanks Captainfab! I'll try it without the metering block and see how they work but at least I know now that its an option if they're not working right. Would the metering block prevent them from locking up?

Hey Eddie. Welcome to the forum. I see you've already got some of the gurus on it so I'm just gonna follow the thread. You're going to really dig those brakes when you're done!
