Brake system bleeding - Speed bleeders. Best thing since sliced bread.

Anyone else here use them? With a little prep work of the master cylinder on the bench, speed bleeders make this once painstaking job a breeze. When refurbishing (new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, hoses and lines) the brake system on the truck in my sig, I was able to bleed the entire system by myself in less than half an hour. Replaced a master cylinder on a friend's '71 Barracuda recently, and with someone working the pedal while I kept the master cylinder filled, it went even faster.

For those who aren't familiar, speed bleeders take place of the stock units and essentially become a one way check valve preventing air returning into the system. Tighten the bleeder, back out 1/4 to 1/2 turn and go. No need to have an assistant hold the pedal down while you tighten the bleeder. Simply pump the pedal up and down. Then tighten the bleeder when done.

there really is no need to have someone hold a pedal down while you tighten a bleeder// just need a cement block

At work we use a pressure bleeder. Basically it's a contraption that holds a large amount of brake fluid and you hook it to the top of the master cylinder. Plug in a hose from your air compressor and walk around to each bleeder valve and open, no foot needed. The next best thing is what you have here, makes it very easy to do at home by your self.

Right on! The block won't release the pedal for you though.

Yes, I have used those too. Not everyone has access to one. Like you said, speed bleeders make it easy for the average Joe at home.
